Not at all PAC Country loves football. Say all you want about Texas and football California alone has an amazing pipeline. You can measure it when an all star H.S. California team plays an all star H.S. Texas team. Who wins? Look it up.
The PAC 12 just had its Media Days. See any big news about expansion?
It is easier to divide the Pie by 12 than to divide it by 14 or 16.
To keep all schools just where they are would require a school to bring its own $35 Million to the Pie. Each year.
Does UH do that? BYU ? Anyone?
Look for a scheduling alliance. Look for an upgraded Las Vegas Bowl.
Since The PAC 10 expanded to The PAC 12 USC has not won a National Title. That needs to change. USC is their biggest Football brand. Expanding even more does not help that scenario. S. California high school talent has been raided more and more. Expansion leads to even more raiding.
In 5 years here I have never seen a Sports story wherein U. of Arizona Officials complain about lack of revenue. Or talk about the horrors of their Athletic Deficit.
Didnât USC win a natty under Pete Carol?
The big problem the PAC 12 has, other than time zone, is the number of kids playing football out there is plummeting. They produce great athletes but they are starting to suffer in the trenches.
They have to import linemen.
Not according to the record books, they didnât.
Their last Title was 2004.
Still The PAC 10 conference.
And if memory serves me right, werenât they stripped of that one?
Yes. But it remains their last one.
17 years ago. To them, forever.
You are correct. I keep thinking Arizona and Arizona State was their last expansion. That dates me a bit. I keep forgetting about Utah and Colorado.
Living in Houston I have seen several stories from the Northwest over the last few years complaining about how much the pac was distributing and how they were falling further and further behind other p5s in funding. If the pac stands pat they will not have a big increase in their next contract, they will not have prime time games in the eastern half of the country (where the large majority of fans are), and they will remain irrelevant. Enjoy, pac is making the same mistakes the big 12 did.
Oldtime, nobody available brings value. See Tusconâs post. The PAC canât help but find more money now that Scott has been shown the door. They will squeak by somehow on a paltry $30+ million per year.
Just as the Big XII members will have to budget to their circumstances, so will the PAC and B1G and ACC if they canât tap new revenue streams. We know what that is like and yet we still play football and argue about players and coaches and fans and rivals and tailgates.
We will be playing football soon, as will everyone else. And every year following that.
USC should thrive with new NIL in LA. They paid Reggie Bush so these guys should be back in business.
No news from the PAC-12 about expansion. Must be nothing going on because if nothing is coming out, nothing is happening?
ATM says hold my beer.
Yep if thereâs one thing real realignment is known for its the transparency and openness of the process.
Weâre back to rumor mongering and trial balloon floating.
Plus Fox does not care if they have central time zone teams and would not give a penny more for the available teams. They already have the Big 10 so with the PAC they cover the entire country. I donât see Fox getting outbid for the PAC after losing UT/OU. Only issue the PAC has is they better hope that the alternate options are strong enough to keep Fox paying them $30 million+.
Itâs almost like some are saying the PAC would be better off taking $25 million a school just to have 4 new teams in the central time zone. Just makes no sense to lower your payout in hopes those new 4 will suddenly boost the conference image (when they couldnât do that for the Big 12 or AAC). Especially when you start factoring in academic image and extra costs of travel. I agree with Paul above, USC will start rolling with NIL. UCLA and Oregon should too.
What did you expect?
Folks gather around please. We are expanding. We have big plans. We want to conquer the world.
The small12 with the utau pimp and okie remains so far until 2025. Technically it has not imploded yet. Therefore if the PAC12 expresses desires to invite anybody from the small12 is subject to get used due to tempering. That is why you canât expect anything from the PAC12 honchos.
You also have to remember that the rodent has almost an exclusivity when it comes to sports news. This is no coincidence that you hear the local rodent reporter reporting all is quiet on the western front.
So I assume if one of the leftovers contact the Pac-12, that is not considered tampering.
I thought tampering was only a legal issue if it was in the bylaws.
Exactly. One way is legalâŠsomewhat but the other is not.
