Both are my favorites because Koby Young went to my high school , Holy Cross High school in New Orleans and Patrick Overmyer went to K Park High school in Kingwood Tx where my daughter went and was a cheerleader. I recall when Koby was recruited but sort of forgot till now. They mentioned his high school on tv, so cool then I said dammm I remember him. The Catholic league in New Orleans is a very tough sports league . I ran track and cross country for holy cross and was a star and it was like the sec, very tough competition. Holy Cross was in a rough neighborhood called the 9th ward sorta like the 3rd ward but way worse in crime but hurricane Katrina flooded it so they moved it with insurance $$$ to a better lakefront area in New Orleans as a total rebuild on the new location. I recall Houston had a Brother Martin high school Wr and a Rummel High school wr from that Catholic school league so it’s exciting to me. Most kids in the New Orleans area try to go to the Catholic schools bc the public schools there are really bad. I went to the public schools from 1st to 8th grade then Holy Cross 9th thru 12th. It’s different over there in that catholic schools dominate the area in sports etc. Public schools don’t dominate sports there like in Texas mainly bc they allow the Catholic schools to directly compete with the public schools so kids get defacto recruited by default in a round about way to end up in one of the Catholic schools.
I did a lot of volunteer work in the 9th ward and St. John’s Parrish after Katrina. Stayed in a fema camp and mucked out houses for weeks, then went back the next year and built new homes. Love that city, and love seeing youngsters from there do big things. Kobe Young is my sons favorite player
I still go to the 9th ward with my brother and parents bc we have a rental building of 5 units / 5 apartments. I have to go renovate 2 units while the coogs aren’t playing , leaving on Oct 18 after the ok state game . The 9th ward is bad but getting better but it is like the 3rd ward and worse . The stories I could tell. My dad grew up there struggling then made it out but he bought some apartments cheap so me and my brother go there to carry on .
