KU next domino?

The funny thing is these guys were always on our level. Letting Daddy Warbucks (OU) carry his wallet around for 30 years gave them the illusion they were more than they were.

I hope I get to visit Phog Allen Fieldhouse at least once.

So Nebraska should be kicked out since they are no longer an AAU school. Friends we do not know. Everything is on the table even non AAU schools joining the BIG10. To make anybody thinks this is #1 about academics is kidding themselves… Rumors are rumors. Do you think school(s) president(s) are going to call a press conference to announce they will have a call about possible expansion?

100% agree. If UT can go to SEC, anything go now. It’s not about tradition, regional, rivalry or academic anymore. All about $$$$. Realignment movement come when we’re least expected.

Interesting to note that some regional schools are only “middle” research class rated - R2 - including:
Baylor, Memphis, SMU, TCU, Texas State, UT-San Antonio, Tulsa, Wichita State, Arkansas State, Louisiana (Lafayette) and Boise State…

while others schools are “top” research class rated - R1 - including: Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Temple, Texas Tech, and West Virginia.

So its easy to see why the above bolded 4 schools (in contiguous states) might become of interest as a 4 team pod to potentially move to either the PAC or the B1G.

R1 is very high research university. It is the highest level a university can be at without being AAU. R2 is the next level down.

For the B1G, at least, academics obviously are #1, because the Big Ten Academic Alliance’s additional research money is worth more than any school’s athletics TV contract.

Colorado School of Mines is R2D2

Looks like he’s using USNWR rankings. Those are based on undergrad education, which TPTB don’t care about even a little bit as far as conference affiliation goes. Research-based rankings like the ARWU and QS ranking are much more relevant here, and the TCUs and Baylors of the world rank very lowly on those, if they’re ranked at all.

Everything is on the table.
Remember friends that an AAU status does not stop you from being associated with penn state, msu and michigan. You talk about AAU schools and you have the scum of the earth running your biggest sports programs?
What a bunch of hypocrites…come to think of it baylor fits right in.

RK knows the importance of being R1 . She’s been pushing us up since she got here. Athletics is the front porch but R1 brings home the bacon .

R2 is not the droid you are looking for.

Some think the college football world has been irreparably torn asunder and now every conference has to run out and do things.

They don’t. In fact, from what I see, the only group that probably should act is the B12. But its only fair. Its their mess.

I would say the AAC probably should try to strengthen too. But it won’t be affected much more with UT in the SEC.

We would have the same challenges.

I can certainly see the B1G adding KU, but I also firmly believe the B1G doesn’t need or want KU.

Now USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Stanford and Notre Dame (football only) = meaningfully attractive. Any combo or all of those would be big time gets that I could see the B1G wanting to add.

I think the B1G was very interested in OU and UT and their huge Texas markets (DFW, Houston, Austin/SATX), but with them off the table, I just don’t see that conference adding any of the Big XII second fiddles or UH. The only real value in the near term could be the largest West Coast TV markets and ND (FOX Sports’ last chance to fight and keep good inventory).

This is just the latest post to mention it, but there seems to be a recurring idea that, if the B1G raided the Pac, Stanford would be included. Why? I get that academics matter to the B1G, but the Cardinal have a small fanbase by P5 standards and they’re good-not-great at both of the revenue sports. If they’re taking a Bay Area school, Cal seems like the obvious choice. What am I missing?

It makes no sense for Stanford to join a conference halfway across the country. This is people jumping to the next step and it doesn’t make sense. Kind of like people raiding the ACC and they have a grant of rights through 2035. Not going to happen.

If B10 will take Rutgers and Maryland, Kansas would be a football power compared to those.

Say what??

Kansas wouldn’t even be a football power if you compared them to UCONN.

Maryland would win, but I think Rutgers is a toss up. Kansas does beat out UConn in football.

I seriously hope this does not go down slow. Rip the bandaid off.

Though I am guessing the B1G doesn’t make any decisions till next summer, then the PAC realizes they have to do something and wait until summer 2023 before working on it. Leaving everyone tons to talk about online and mid level schools not knowing what to do or which conferences get raided.
