Yeah, the roster limit is leaving a lot of high school kids and JUCOs looking at lower levels.
The days of walk-ons working their way into a spot on the team seem to be over for the most part in P4.
I get it. But this absolutely sucks. It ruins it for the kids and takes a chunk out the lore of college sports. Where are the stories of triumph going to come from now?
Eventually a kid will pass up a payday to stay with his team and win the weedeater bowl. That will be the next great college sports story.
If they could get their education paid for on a lower level rather than walk on and basically be a blocking or tackling dummy, in the long run it will be better for most of these kids, in my opinion. A full ride scholarship at any level takes a huge financial burden off of their families.
On the other hand, if they play well enough at the lower level, they could get picked up by an upper-level team on scholarship.
Potentially good news on the roster limits - it looks like there will be a grace period allowing current rostered players to keep their spots. The newest proposal is to allow the schools to determine whether to use this exception, so itâs still not certain that the judge will go for that.
Ok, so what exactly would that mean?
That you could keep more than 105 players for a time?
I mean, I dunno, so maybe someone can fill me in.
Yes, a program could keep more than whatever roster limit is imposed by the final settlement until those players who are currently on the roster move on (graduation, transfer, or whatever). So if Hogshooter (or whomever) is currently on the roster and the roster has 115 players, then he would not have to leave because of roster limitations.
The other interesting thing about the proposal is that an athlete who transfers but would otherwise be âgrandfatheredâ at his current program could take that exemption with him, meaning that the new school would have that extra roster spot.
This exception policy would eventually phase out over the next 5 years or so, as current players run out of eligibility.
Again, the judge might not agree to allowing schools to decide whether to allow the roster exceptions, but it seems like a reasonable compromise.
Keionte Scott to Miami. (No surprise we know he wanted to follow Ethridge)
Rayâquan Bell to Prairie View
Tony Mathis Jr to Marshall
Jett Runion to Houston Christian
Almost everybody who left has found a home

Surprised by RayâQuan Bell not getting at least an FBS if not necessarily P4 offer. He had offers from Mizzou, Arizona State, TCU, Baylor, Cal, Memphis, etc., and I thought he was our best OL signee a couple of classes ago. Maybe he chose to stay fairly close to home and play immediately.
Even then, going to PV is a huge downgradeâŠ
Why so? You go who wants you at this point - he dominates heâs back in fbs
Exactly heâs a true sophomore so if he has a good season as a starter he will get back in the portal and probably get a nice sized NIL check too
Trust me Iâve been told some guys go down to FCS to get tape and their mission is get back in the portal by November
Thatâs as minor league as it gets and thatâs why they deserve some kind of financial incentive for it
