Let's talk UCF

BYU game was “swung open” by poorly coached Coog special teams. Watch the game again if you need to.

I think QB talent is good

Run defense is good

Secondary needs to improve soon/yesterday

RBs are just okay thus far

WRs are athletic, but lack fundamentals (hanging on to the football, why would you jump over someone while you are headed out of bounds? There is/was no benefit to you/team)

Overall IMO the team is not disciplined, too much jawing and celebrating (great, you piled on the opposing player AFTER your teammates made initial contact…)
Our most talented offensive players make selfish and careless mistakes/penalties.

A lot to clean up

I hope I’m incorrect, but changing a young person’s personality in the course of a week is most likely not happening.

the fact you say “enjoy YOUR win” speaks volumes. And here I thought it was OUR win.

When we clean up the penalties and turnovers what will some of you complain about, holgorsen cussing on the sideline under his mask?

we werent letting wr come off uncovered vs tulane and byu…
my faith in the secondary faded at the end of that byu game…3rd and 15 for the game, a must stop (make them settle for a field goal or we lose)…their star WR was injured and not in (romney)…byu lines up in a power position and only puts 1 WR out wide (to try and get a 1 on 1)…we give it to them…
on a play were we know where the ball was likely going, on a 3rd and 15 to decide the game, without their top wr…they still convert and win …

my faith in the secondary isnt high

It was a bad play by our top corner. One reason I said they needed to come out and prove something vs Navy.
BYU ran one misdirection after another and never stopped using their bag of tricks. Hard to hold a really good offense and qb down for the entire game but we did a great job for a long stretch while coming from behind.

Offenses are too good today to think you are going to shut them down. I get frustrated if I watch a big 12 game because teams score 40-50 points on each other .

SMU is missing their two best receivers so it will impact their offense the rest of the year. They have a very experienced QB and offensive line so they are pretty solid.

UCF is so uptempo that it really hurts their defense. I think we slow them down just enough to beat them. I also think our defense is due to make some plays in the secondary. We had two guys on their receiver when Navy’s QB decided to thread the needle which tells me we had the right defense called and we got a turnover on a tipped ball.

Our pass D is not very good.

Do you ever judge the basketball team off of one play?
I respect your BBall analysis, football not so much

We have two good CB, solid safeties and pretty good depth when healthy.

No only have we been good at stopping the run, but we have very good at getting to the QB.

there are tons of play, go to the grades thread made after the tulane game… i noted how bad the secondary was…that tulanes qb was getting sacked alot…but on the occasions he was able to get the ball of, our secondary wasnt giving him much issue, he was getting it where he wanted… i also noted that we have the worst allowed passer rating among all teams in the aac… a league were only 2 teams are considered to even have good defense…and 2 of the 3 quarterbacks we played was a true freshman on his 1st career start, and a triple option qb

im talking big picture. But how that play was symbolic to how bad, like a straw that broke the camels back in my faith in them
edit: saw your edit… thanks for the jab as well… cheers

Not meant as a jab. Its a compliment, your BBall analysis is respected.

we are bottom 4 in almost every pass defense category in the league, despite not playing a single pass 1st offense (allowed qbr, td:int ratio.yard/att, yds per game etc.) and playing in bad defensive league
but you dont respect my knowledge for saying the pass defense isnt good…

I hope we get Anderson back for UCF. I expect we give up a bunch of pass plays. That should be expected, UCF gets lots of yards in the air. Our D probably won’t do enough to make you believe in them but maybe they can make some plays

i actually believe in the D… our run D has been nothing short of amazing. our ability to pressure has been good aswell…i actually love our chances vs Cincinnati (in 2 weeks) who is #7 in the country because they are so run based…

and i know there is potential in the pass D to be decent…damarion hasnt been good this year but was borderline elite last year… so we know he is capable…marcus jones has yet to show his skills in converge either,
im with you, hopefully anderson is back…and we dont need to shut down ucf, but would love some big 3rd down PBUs… im okay with giving up yards…just hoping they rise to the occasion on the big stops

UCF then at Cincy. We win both of those and we’re TOUGH.

Let’s look at UCF’s 3-2 record. They beat GT who are 2-4, ECU who are 1-3, and Tulane who are 2-4. On the other hand they lost to 2-1 Tulsa and 3-1 Memphis. Yes they beat 3 sorry teams and lost to two good teams; that doesn’t make them supermen. Beating GT 49-21, ECU 51-26 and Tulane 51-34 doesn’t make them world beaters.

Just me responding to that point…if you remember the game in 2015 where we clinched the division they threw for 350 yards against us because we completely shut down their triple option. Idk I kinda think passing really takes them out of their identity and how they want to manage and control the game.

Their defense and O lIne is suspect to say the least.

based on what?
