As you can imagine, we are in full celebratory mode here as the University of Houston has officially joined the Big 12 Conference! To this end, we are committed to enhancing your engagement as we move forward in this exciting trajectory. With football season in the horizon, we plan to make our Party on the Plaza and Life Member tailgates an unforgettable experience for all attendees. To allow for a closer, more unified gathering, Party on the Plaza will be held right outside the UH Athletics/Alumni Center, located at 3204 Cullen Blvd. Various Affiliated Alumni Associations will have their areas set up for networking, food and refreshment.
The Life Member tailgate will be held inside the Athletics-Alumni Center in the O’Quinn Great Hall. Life Members will be allotted one guest. There will be a fee for additional guests. To ensure you receive all the detailed information about our tailgates, please stay tuned to houstonalumni.com. For our away from home tailgates, please visit our Coogs on the Road page.
To gain entrance into Party on the Plaza and the Life Member tailgates, please have your Alumni Card on-hand. You can access your Alumni Card through the UH Go app. Once you access your card, take a picture of it for easy reference.
We look forward to connecting with you for these fun-filled events as we come together to cheer on our Cougars and celebrate our unbreakable bond.
Well this s#cks. I have enough trouble getting from the garage to the stadium. I will not be able to get from the garage to alumni cennter and back to the stadium. No more life member tailgates for me.
The Life Alumni do a really good job, but it adds to the walk from the lot that I tailgate in across Wheeler Avenue. I think I will pass.
It does mean the University is looking at how to handle more people immediately around the stadium, which is a good thing,

On the plus side, some air conditioning for tailgate.
Yeah, but it seems like it’ll be removed from all of the outdoor action. Having it inside will be nice from the elements, but it may feel like a self contained cocoon. I’ll give it a try.
We have a very good tailgate group in the Green lot on the other side of Wheeler. In general, the Life Member’s in our group do not go to the Life Member tailgate, or if we do just to drop by and grab a cold one before the games. Now that it has moved to Alumni Center, for now my wife and I will probably only go for the WVU game on a Thursday, which is difficult for our group to tailgate in the Green lot.
The idea that tailgating has to be next to the stadium is kind of skewed because we were use to it at the Rob. However, most schools have tailgating all over their campuses which often means a relatively long way from the stadium.
BTW, if the Life Member tailgate is outside the Alumni Center, is it really a tailgate? For that matter are any of the centralized party areas actually tailgating.
Tailgating: a social gathering in which food and drinks are served at or near the back end of a parked vehicle (such as a pickup truck) that usually occurs in a parking lot before or after a public event (such as a football game or concert).
Seems like they are trying to stretch out the tailgating along Cullen. Would be nice if the student orgs had more space, they were literally right on top of each other.
ps, UT has an indoor alumni clubhouse thing that’s pretty cool before games. It has bars and tvs playing other games. Feels pretty exclusive
Don’t think so. They are just replacing the tailgate areas in front of the stadium with party tent rentals for people that want to pay to tailgate in front of the stadium. Saw an email a month or two ago advertising them. Not adding more walk space to get in or out.
Yes, TCU has a very active tent area near one corner of the stadium. Lot of people having fun and the walk to that entrance area is full of people. The parking lot to the left also has many tailgates. Plus the parking lot on the north side entrance is good (or at least used to be as I do not enter on that side)
I do think many were unsure of the rent a tent type thing when it first started compared to traditional parking space tailgating.
Disappointing, the new location is further away from the garage and the action by the stadium. Moving the location across the street in the open area by the science laboratory building would have been better.
