Just had a roofer come by and he asked me do you know Rob Gray…?
I said hell yeah I know Rob Gray… dude can score…
He said “Man… that’s Lil Rob… he was the only 12 year old that could hoop with us when we were 17,18…”

Cool story!
Still one of the most exciting and entertaining players we’ve had!
Rob Gray put us back on the map.
A guy that could have left. Sampson was hard on him. Who remembers as a sophomore. When Sampson benched him against SMU.
Most guys quit. Rob stuck with it and trusted Sampson.
He changed our program. Forever grateful for Rob Gray. My favorite Coog of all time.
Of all the names we throw around in here. Jersey retirements, etc.
None more important than Rob.
Thats true. And didn’t we recruit Rob, cause Jherrod Stiggers turned pro early?
Rob was supposed to go to Tennessee, but coach got fired.
A decade ago he began his career at Houston. OG.
That 3 still haunts me…
I know there were players before him in the Sampson era, like Damian Dotson, Kelvin Lewis and Devin Davis, but the program really turned the corner during the Rob Gray years and hasn’t looked back.
Kelvin Lewis played under Penders.
My bad. The mind ain’t what it used to be.
Not to pile on but Devin Davis also wasn’t before him. They were here at same time (actually Rob came a year before Devin).
Dot was right though. ![]()
It’s all good. Kelvin Lewis is now an assistant head coach with Troy. We played them last season and they highlighted that tidbit during the broadcast.
Surprised lil lil Rob Gray did not try and follow in the footsteps, remember his little bro always on the TV
