Is the school paying for it or are their boosters?
From what I understand the athletics department (revenue + donations) pays most, or all, of these salaries, but the state money may pay some of the salary and pays for operations including private jets at some schools.
My point is these schools have this revenue from their athletics department and instead of being invested back into the school itâs spent on the next head coach/paying off the old one and then they ask the state for tens/hundreds of millions of dollarsâŠ
Very valid point.
If true⊠This strikes me as desperate on the part of LSU. While Riley is a great coach he isnât at the level the escalates the entire coaching compensation market. Jimbo is still under $10M per annum, same with Saban and Swinney and they all have natties to their name. $12M per year for Riley is ridiculous and canât be justified.
You got boosters willing to give you their money why not take it.
And Mel has set the market right now. If LSU wants a coach like a Riley they have to beat the Mel Tucker money. Because at the end of the day LSU has to pay more than Michigan state, and it has to be a decent bump.
Also he is making some good money at OU. So they have to bump that as well.
Agreed. If you have 10 wealthy boosters to foot the bills, thatâs chump changes to them. 8M, 10M, or 12M per year wonât put a dent in their pockets.
Dollars are fungible. This dollar is the same as that dollar. Complying with rules is a matter of accounting practice.
Also Louisiana is the 3rd most corrupt country in the world.
If boosters are paying it (not sure in this case), they can choose to spend their funds as they see fit. They are donating for a specific purpose, not for LSU to do as they wish.
lol welcome to the SEC Oklahoma!
it seems a bit odd to hear people complain about LSU that has a profitable athletics program get $12 million from donors to pay a coach when those same people are fans of a program that gets money from Tilman to pay a football coach yet still spends $48 million in academic side money to run the rest of the athletics programâŠwhile complaining to Texas about the PUF and needing more money
if you have $48 million in academic side subsidies (student fees only about $15 million of that) for $33 million in other academic side money to pay for athletics then you should not complain to the state you need more money
But whatâs your point? The Bonghorns are getting over $1.5 billion a year from the PUF despite already getting many times more in state funding than UH? Whatâs wrong with giving more other state schools more funding instead of concentrating all of the stateâs money to just UT and A&M? Could only help the stateâs higher education system and its future, right? I thought you Bonghorns say you want competition and that is your reason for wanting to open up a UT-Houston campus. But not a UH-Austin campus, of course!
MSU is reportedly offering Mel Tucket 10 years at 95million. He has only beaten UM . He better sign quick
I was born and raised in Louisiana; looking back, I thank god everyday my parents moved to Houston when I was in Highschool.
That state is a clusterf***.
True dis . . . . .
Lincoln might go 0-3 to end the year. Heâs already lost the hardest game theyâve played so far.
As a âI hate the big guysâ guy, this would bring me joy as both Ou and LSU fans would be butthurt.
UT Austin does not get remotely close to $1.5 billion from the PUF
plus this is a discussion about LSU and their profitable athletics program and donor supported coaching hire and another program that spends almost $50 million per year in students academic money on athletics while their fans call out LSU for what they spend
OMG! Poor Bonghorns donât even get $1.5 billion in PUF money! You poor poor Bonghorns are so deprived! Yaâll only get 12 times more than the Coogs instead of 20! So extremely sad how you poor poor Bonghorns are forced to work with such measly pickinâs!
They got 1.3 billion in 2020
Typically these contracts are paid by boosters or related entities.
