LSU Is Mentally in the Portal — Houston Isn’t

LSU fans already waving the white flag before the ball is even kicked tells you everything you need to know.

Coach fired. Interim coach literally packing his bags for Ole Miss just announced. Players opting out. Portal season excuses lined up like a CVS receipt. And now their own fans want to “flush” the guy coaching the bowl game. That’s not a football program — that’s a dumpster fire with a SEC logo slapped on it.

But somehow, when Houston wins, the media will try to whisper, “Yeah but LSU didn’t care.”
Funny how “didn’t care” only shows up after they lose.

Let’s be clear:
LSU cared enough to show up.
LSU cared enough to cash the bowl check.
LSU cared enough to put the helmet on.

Houston is ranked, focused, and actually wants to be there — while LSU had ONE win over a Top 25 team all season and still gets treated like royalty because of history and geography.

This game is a no-win narrative for LSU and that’s exactly why they’re already making excuses:

  • Lose → “We didn’t care”
  • Win → “We’re rebuilding”

Meanwhile, if Houston wins big, it’s simple math:
Ranked Houston beats SEC LSU on a neutral field.

No asterisk. No sympathy. No apologies.

Run it up.
Break their will early.
Send them to the offseason arguing about coaches, portals, and excuses.

Let the SEC chants die quietly in NRG.
This is a Houston statement game.

Go Coogs. :paw_prints::fire:

That makes me like our chances more.

OTOH…I sure hope that we don’t goof this up despite all that.

It would be a REALLY bad look for us.

Lsu still has recruited in the top 10 forever so if we win, no excuses

Lsu is my second team I root for but in this case, I’m UH all the way bc we need the win

My gut feeling is we are being set up for failure.
I just hope we show up and play with grit no matter what LSU does.

I feel the same way and am afraid their fans aren’t going to show up and it will make us look bad.

Our defense is great but worried about the offense bc again Lsu has tons of talent . They lost a close one to OU them barely beat western kentucky or who ever that was

We just don’t know which Lsu team will show up lol

I heard ole miss is hiring their current intern coach so he might be distracted

We need this win bc 2027 when we play them , kiffin is coaching .
We should be way better by then as well

Will see

Life is better when you stop caring about what the national sports media says.

Underestimate LSU at your own peril. They still have a lot of talent, the returning players will be trying to impress their new coaches, and the huge crowd will give them some extra juice.

If LSU fans don’t show up… somehow we look bad? Want to try to explain that logic?

There will be plenty of LSU kids who are playing for a spot next season or at worst, tape for the portal.

My “other” team is OU, and they resemble UH a lot. I expect the game to be similar to thenOU/LSU game from a few weeks ago. Our defense is good enough to hold them to a couple of scores, our offense just has to show up.

A 10th win is worth any criticism

LSU played Baylor last year at the Texas Bowl in front of 59,940 people, if our game draws less than that game all the pundits will say, “Houston can’t even out draw Baylor in Houston”, regardless of the breakdown of the crowd.

Pundit logic

AJ Haulcy has played well for LSU. Will he play in the Texas Bowl?

No way LSU wants to lose this game…not to us and not in the NIL era.

There is NOW a P4 school in the city with their largest Alumni Base…plus many T Shirt fans here.

No way LSU tolerates losing to Houston.

Of course, i think we are two ships passing in the night (in the NIL era) as LSU not only has UT and TAMU to worry about…but also Houston and Tech in this NEW era!

I have a lot of LSU friends who put UH in the same category as La Tech, McNeese St., and ULL.

Losing to UH is unthinkable and would be blamed on LSU’s coaching change or opts outs. No acknowledgment would be given to UH’s rise to prominence.
