I tend to agree with you. I got my masters degree from that University in Austin. I got a better education from my undergraduate work at the University of Houston. At UH they tried to educate you, at UT they tried to impress me.
I remember reading stories on original CoogFans from some of our distinguished members that recount stories from the old days where LSU fans did vile things to visiting CoogFans in the stands.
Modern day decorum would prohibit discussion of those barbaric actions.
I believe those CoogFan Posters so I keep LSU fans at an appropriate length.
You seen LSUâs library lately???

Had lunch with an Aggie friend a few weeks back. He said heâll be attending the game at LSU this year but will be wearing purple and gold and cheering for the Ags on the inside. Said heâs not trying to get in a bad situation. I just gave him a shameful look.
Sounds about right. Aggie logic at its best.
Wow, what a cowardly thing to do. Canât believe someone would admit that much less do it. Help your friend.
Would yâall rather fight your way into and then out of the stadium?
âWe know that the SEC is quite low on educational levels compared to other P5 schoolsâ???
Better check that comment. US News reports that of the Top 50 of ALL schools in the nation based on academic excellence, the SEC had 3 schools and the State of Texas had 2 (Rice and UT at #49)
Further research from the same report has Alabama at #129 and LSU at # 140. We are ranked at:
Wait for it::
Yikes! #171
We are above Tech!! #P6
And they like to call us Cougar High. What does that make them? A Montessori school?
Those reports use stats that have nothing to do with education.
From the report;
âThe rankings evaluate colleges and universities on 16 measures of academic quality.â
Iâm not going to argue with you. If you disagree with the report thatâs fine. I am only providing it as information to debunk the comment that âSEC schools are at the lower end of the academic worldâ. In the opinion of US News that is not true.
Go Coogs!
USN&WR rankings are a joke. If you want to compare academics, there are better avenues. Oklahoma cooked its books so it could get a better ranking. If you can manipulate it that easily, how good of a surveying tool can it be?
From an academic standpoint, you have Vanderbilt. Florida is AAU, as is A$M. While not an end all be all, I would put more weight in that.
I never thought they were. I worked with plenty of guys from SEC schools.
They were very good engineers and the like.
I am only aware that ut thinks they are sub par.
I never pay attention to what the big 10 schools or the like think period !!
These rankings weight things like number if professors who won awards. They are usually on staff just for that reason as they rarely teach. They take into acct how much research $$ a school gets. It is well known that there is a lot of graft and corruption in the awarding of these $$$, usually from the federal gov⊠nuff said !
It is not the School that make you successful. It is you and only you.
This reminds me of a few Doctorates graduates from Yale. They were applying the same principles arriving at the same result. Then a graduate from a so called sub par School comes in, apply different ideas and rise to success.
Universities have gone away from teaching about thinking for yourself. Instead they offer a âpre-packagedâ education. That is the biggest concern that parents ought to think today. Is it worth it for my child to go to college? This question would have never come to mind twenty years ago.
Which P5 conference are they ahead of?
My comment was the âSEC is quite low on the educational level compared to the other P5sâ. Out of the 5 power conferences, SEC is on the lower end when it comes to education.
Fred, you are saying that the âUSN&WR rankings are a joke.â This is the same USN&WR rankings our school points to when pointing out our academic progress. Yes some schools can cheat to up their rankings, but overall, I would think their metrics are as valid as any.
However, when thinking of one school over another, I would venture to say that in every college in America, the laws of physics and mathematics are the same, Ohms Law is the same, symmetrical components are the same, the rules of grammar and the books authored by the greats are the same, the history of the world is the same (though some may be taught with different slants depending on the professorâs bias). I could go on. The bigger name school will probably give one a better chance of an interview, it doesnât necessarily mean one will be better educated.
Of course, the curricula that people take makes a great difference in their ability to gain employment. For example, while art appreciation may be nice, it has a very limited range of employment opportunities.
