Solid presser, I’m becoming more and more impressed with CMA.
Here’s to a solid 2017 campaign! GO COOGS
What did he mean by protecting ourselves against last minute visits elsewhere? Is he saying he will yank an offer if a kid takes an OV somewhere else late in the game?
That’s what it sounded like. And I might be OK with that. Last weekend doesn’t seem too much to ask for, there’s plenty of opportunity to visit schools. Why put your staff in a bind if someone flips that late.
I agree in theory. But I’m not sure we’re really in a position to make those kinds of demands. I like the first come, first served approach. If you string things out unnecessarily (ala Josh Allen), you may lose your spot if someone else commits first. And let’s be honest…they’re going to hold a spot for a 4 or 5 star kid even if he wants to take other visits, if they feel reasonably confident he’ll commit here. I just think this is going to be an extraordinarily difficult stance to enforce.
Fair point.
I loved his honesty in the beginning. Good class hoping next year’s is much better with a full year to recruit. If UH wins next season they should be OK come recruiting time.
This!
CMA was able to pull in a nice class in the midst of a lot of uncertainty. Even though CMA was hired in early December, it took a while to fill out the rest of his staff. That length of uncertainty was detrimental to recruiting. Even given that detriment, he still got some very nice players, including several who I believe are severely under-ranked. And several more highly ranked players were considering us in their final 5 schools.
All that said, if he’s able to go out and win a conference championship this year and land us back in a NY6, all will be right in the recruiting arena again. If he falls flat on his face, that’s going to be a problem. I firmly believe if we are able to play an entire year with no coaching carousel distractions, we should be the odds-on favorite to win the conference again.
We got burned by both Sam Cosmi and Donovon Stiner visitng other schools that offered them prior to the last weekend.
Most of our commits visited us the next to last weekend instead of the last weekend which isn’t normal. It’s possible that because of the transition, we allowed them to do that this year to be fair to them. My guess is that we do pull the scholarship if a player wants to visit someone else the last weekend instead; I’m sure that will be made clear to them from the beginning.
