Major Applewhite starting to get comfortable as UH head coach

“It’s been a hell of a year,” Applewhite told the TD Club crowd. “It’s been a great year, a learning year. A lot of lessons on and off the field.”

After the Cougars had wrapped up a spring practice in mid-March, Applewhite was talking with a mentor.

“How do you feel?” the mentor asked.

“I feel great. It’s awesome,” Applewhite responded. “Everything is going great.”

What the mentor next told Applewhite still rings true today.

“He told me it’s going to take about 12 to 18 months before it feels like it’s your program,” Applewhite said. “Really, it’s true. You have to go through a full calendar year.”

We lost 4 games by a touchdown or less…

really makes you wonder - nard dog voice

Yes we did - and one has to wonder how many of those might have been won if our offense were not so predictable. It had better be different this year - or Major might feel a lot less “comfortable” in his job!

Frankly I do not like to hear/read these types of questions/answers. It does not matter if he feels great or comfortable. This is not a “feel good” or popularity contest. This is not a video game. It is time for him to say very little and produce big. That is usually the sign of good Coaches. Bill Walsh, Belichick, John Wooden, Saban said or say very little.
