Yes we will have the best team in awhile if Sasser does return next year, I really think we can win it all next year, Merry Xmas everyone, hope u all enjoy ur day
I remember Coach Sampsonâs 1st UH team. Limited talent but were âinâ most of the conference games due to his extraordinary coaching talents. Going to be a clinic in coaching watching Kelvin with this ânewly constitutedâ group of players!
My thoughts exactly⊠Not reason we shouldâve won more than 10 games that first year.
In CKS I trustâŠ
Is the transfer portal an option?
Great question.
Is there any chance Tramon could recover fast enough to play by the conference Tourney, like Fabian last year?
Wouldnât think so. Fabian injured his knee in May and didnât get cleared for workouts until January
On Sharp potentially playing this season. First, does he want to forgo his senior season for a half year with a wounded team, Maybe he communicates that he has every intention of leaving to play professionally in 24 and the senior year is a moot point. But he was to be 100% sure, cause once he steps on the court, itâs over
If that hurdle is cleared and he absolutely wants to play this season, then he needs a bunch of reps in practice to see if heâs actually ready to contribute. In fact, thatâs probably step one, 2-3 weeks of practice to determine how ready he is to play, then determine if he wants to skip his senior year.
If he has no intention of being here for 4 years, then sure play him, even if itâs in blowouts to get even better prepared for next year.
My gut is at the end of the day he doesnât play, but provides a much needed skilled body for practice. But Iâm on board with whatever CKS and the Sharp family decide to do.
Lastly, how many HS kids have ever done the early graduate and play in Spring deal?
That is exactly what I said b4. CKS is the AP coach of the year if we make the tourney. No ifs and buts and cements his legacy as once in generation coach. I do not think ppl realize that how hard it is to build a habit where you stop thinking and rebounding defending etc becomes second nature. The more you think the slower you get. Of course you need to have talent but talent alone does not equate to winning. And for the last time it is NOT plug and play as some of you think.
There has been a huge learning curve even for our transfers.
If we get to a point to where we would need him to play would it be worth taking the RS season away?
The downside is that our Ken Pom efficiency stats were at National Championship level this year. Only Gonzaga and Baylor also had the right combo. We were better than a lot of people realized.
And neither of those are as good as they were last season
I posted about this earlier this morning in the 21-22 season thread.
You are absolutely correct! This season is NOT over! We still have a great opportunity to do some very special things.
Coach CKS and a little luck is all these guys need.
The season is far from over and look forward to watching how this revamped edition progresses. We are just going to have to work thru some frustrating stretches. My main concern is that there is no one to spell Jamal. We were very limited in that area with Marcus, and could only get by for 1-2 minutes with Jamal on the bench. Marcus is more of a shooting guard than even a combo guard
Jamal is going to have to play 35+ minutes a night.
Reminder that we play in the AAC.
There are a lot of bad teams in our league.
Barring more injuries, we can still win 23 to 25 games.
12-6 is absolutely doable in conference. Which would get us to 23-8 and a lock for the tourney. We will likely still be favored in all but the Memphis, Cincy, SMU WSU road games. I doubt we lose all 4, but we will likely drop some other road game to a hot shooting team like we do every year. I donât see us losing more than 2 of our 9 home games.
Now come tourney time, AAC and NCAA, things got exponentially more difficult as guard play and 3s become so much more important. Advancing is likely going to depend on our draws and Kyler improving to an all conference level 2 guard.
Little fyi:
per NCAA rules a player can medical redshirt if he has participated in 30% or less of teamâs gms. And it occurred in 1st half of season. So Tramon will qualify in both situations. Sasser is just past 30% , I believe but itâs really irrelevant for him imo bc at most I see him coming back for 1 more yr not 2 which he can regardless next year as a Senior.
Best wishes to Marcus and Tramon for speedy recovery.
Iâm not knowledgeable enough to talk about the team the rest of the season. But, I will tell you how proud I am of the culture of this program putting our kids first, the next man up philosophy, the hard work and effort, the âclassâ our kids show, and the desire and ability to overcome all obstacles. This season may be less than we hoped but the team, the culture and the sense of âfamilyâ will pay huge benefits for a long time and should make us all proud to be Coogs!
