Marcus Sasser

Including Ryan we had 14 on the team.

Now we have 12. Adding Sharp makes it 13.

Sampson will figure this out.

its not about jump in the dpeth chart… there is no depth chart, robbie spends most of the time with the big his this season because his offense isnt there yet
we have 4 rotation guards for a team that regularly uses 5…
of the 4 rotation guards, 1 has bad ankle sprain and official word of his availability isnt out, another has missed multiple games with an unknown illness, another missed a month and just came back from a hand that isnt fully healed yet.

i think there is an interpretation that im saying he is special enough to jump players… when im just saying we are out of players and need bodies

Yes if we run out of players we may use anyone.
That seems obvious

We have Bigs.

Why not start Carlton, White, and Chaney/Roberts, then Shead and Edwards?

Taze can play Small Forward/hybrid like Drexler did.

Then Francis and Walker.

Then Ryan.

Really sucks for this year. But now gives us the chance for Sampson to have his most talented squad ever at UH.

Sharp is not going to play, he is not ready to play. It would be a big mistake to throw him into the fire, expecting something, and then have it both backfire on him and the team/program. He hasn’t been molded into the culture, not molded into the flow of team play in practice or in games. AND he’s basically a high schooler. That’s just desperation which just about always backfires. Don’t rush him as if he’s the saving grace because he’s not.

Here’s an idea. Let’s get the new football commits that are enrolling after the fall semester to play in the bowl game. Maybe from that perspective you can see how it just makes zero sense.

Alright. No need for that sarcasm. It’s been a long, sad day for many of us

We’re just throwing out ideas. Basketball is a much easier sport, to plug and play, then football in my opinion

Thanks for the lecture. Wow. I guess you skipped the first paragraph.

And since you’re lecturing me, let me address your ā€œopinionā€ about plugging in and playing being easier in basketball than football. Well for one that’s incorrect, and it’s easier to mask the deficiencies of one player out of eleven with specialized positions as opposed to doing it with one of only five players who in many ways perform similar/same functions and are more dependent on the competency of the other player(s) to perform well as a whole. Sorry to play the I played college basketball card, but I did.

dejon was injured coming into UH, and played a significant role. without prior indoctranation into the culture when he got healthy …
no one is saying he should be a major player or carry significant role or minutes… he would be the guy who gets minutes because shead got 2 fouls in the 1st 4 minutes of the game type player…

sampson also noted he would have felt comfortable playing caleb his redshirt year

also noting we arent the only school dealing with a ā€œsharpā€ early enrollee dilemma
elite recruit Shaedon Sharpe is joining kentucky this week aswell, and Calipari noted if he is good enough to play he will, but they want to get him on campus before taking any stances

Had Deeky played college basketball before? Yes.

I just don’t see the points we need to make up at guard. Shead will be good but he’s a point first not a volume scorer. Edwards is second fiddle scorer at best more like third. When you ask him for more than 12 a game consistently you get into trouble, it was true at Tech too. Taze and Ramon good all around players just don’t see the consistent scoring.

We need the bigs to pick us up here. Carlton needs to start over Chaney. We need points not another ā€œtough guy.ā€ And Fabian needs to become what the coaches have been saying for three seasons in press conferences he can be. The leading scorer on this team. Tall order but the points have to come from the bigs. FTs have to get better there too.

This team is still better than the March 2019 and the what would have been March 2020 team. This sucks but a lot of the ā€˜sky is falling’ folks thought the same when Mills transferred last year and we made a final four run that no one projected in January. We can’t hold the bar that high but this team with Edwards, Carlton, White, Cheney and Shead is as solid as some of our best rotations. This team went from really deep to a pretty damn good starting five with some decent depth.

We are still a second weekend team in my opinion.

Shead facilitates and scores. Edwards , Walker and White hit threes. Taze attacks the rim. Carlton, White and Chaney help spread the court by pounding the paint.

And WE rebound the heck out of the ball

the question is the offense…
shead, taze, edwards, fabian, carlton is still a fierce defensive unit…

removing the cougar red glasses the offense looks less than amazing

Damn we are having a rough go with the injuries. Wish Marcus a full recovery and hope he returns next year better than ever. In the meantime, its next man up. Excited to see Walker in a bigger role.

I lost my cougar red glasses awhile ago. This is going to be some Ray ball scoring. Winning is winning. Will probably slow the game down on the offensive side. I can’t see anyone with a serious green light to shoot whenever they want outside maybe Fabian.

The good news though, we have a closer. Shead. That 3 he hit when we were only up 5 against the Pokes and they had the momentum was huge and the main reason we won by 11 instead of sweating it out.

Sasser was having a great season… I feel so bad for him because he was making the case to get drafted after this season…

But, I damn sure ain’t quitting on Shead, Edwards, Moore and Walker in the backcourt.

Sampson should win Coach of the Year if this team makes the tournament. It is not a knock on the remaining players, it’s just that a basketball team doesn’t easily replace 33 points a game and the on court leadership.

I’ll be extremely happy if this team finished top 4 in the conference and eeks out a bid.

Fabian is going to have to become an automatic 15-20 a game and stop with the silly fouls that put him on the bench.

I’m not giving up on the season and look forward to supporting the team at Fertita (as soon as my second bout with Covid ends.)

Prayers to Sasser for a speedy recovery.

Let’s circle the wagons and get a W on Tuesday.

Side note: I’ll be in Louisiana to put $$$ on the 2023 Coogs to win the title as soon as those lines are live.
