After returning from Lubbock and rewatching the first half, I
have a slightly more positive take than most on this board. I think the team is showing marked improvement, especially the offense. There was much better movement. The OL was blocking and making gaps for Jenkins. Donovan had much better vision of the field and was able to find open receivers. The receivers ran better routes and didn’t drop balls. It was probably the best half our offense has put together in a long time. Donovan seems to be finally getting a grip on CDH’s system. Remember, it took Tune a couple of years to get it. I think the offense will get better every week.
On the other hand, the defense is still our weakest link. Our secondary seems to have talent, but just looks poorly coached. They are constantly out of position and lose sight of receivers and the ball. Our LB play is mediocre and nothing like the LBs we’ve had on Cullen over the years. If you run a 3 man line, the LBs need to be performing at a much higher level.
All in all, I see signs to be hopeful. I think we finish strong!
I can remember Helton and dimel having glimmers of hope. Fooled me twice, I refuse a thrice.
Now watch the 2nd half…
I never saw our offense clicking like that with Helton or Dimel. We scored on our first 4 drives. I really havent seen anything like that in recent memory.
The game is two halves tho!
UH got shutout in the 2nd half and didnt adjust thanks to the sorry coaching. Talent is there, tho!
Actually the play calling changed dramatically.
And our best RB spent much of the time in the bench.
We looked fantastic in the first half. Thats a big part of what made the 2nd half collapse so remarkable. It was obvious we weren’t outlassed. We just completely abandoned everything we did in the first half - including playing our stud running back.
This is actually the exact reason I have less hope. I know Dana can X and O a killer offense. And i know this offense has talent. But I have also seen Dana completely bungle that up almost every game for 5 years.
Its because we have no identity!
Its one of the few things thats been consistent and a big part of whats so infuriating. He can can take what’s good and singlehandedly stifle it with incomprehensible decisions.
Didn’t we jump out it a big early lead at NRG? Tech came back and won that one.
You got that right, the halfback screen made an appearance. Never figured I’d see that again.
I know, the second half was way different and very disappointing. Did we wear out like CDH said or did TT make major adjustments? Probably a little of both.
I’m going to watch the 2nd half this week and objectively share my thoughts.
If we wore out, no sugar coating we need a new strength coach. At this point I believe we need about 7 new coaches.
Thats been the story of Dana’s tenure we can look really good in one half and clueless in the other.
Keep Dana away from the team at half time. Problem solved
It would be nice if Texas Texh came out in the 2nd half and stopped us at what we do.
But who even knows what we do?
I was also perplexed why Jenkins didnt play much in the 2nd half. I think it had to do to the fact that he’s not that good on picking up the blitz and protecting the QB. I bet the coaching staff believed that TT was going to put a lot more pressure on the QB in the second half, which they did, and the other RBs are better at picking it up. Just my hunch
Tech ran 59 plays and held the ball for less than 25 mins. They ran 26 plays in the 2nd half and no drive had more than 6 plays!
We wore out is some major BS.
It’s reason #1,278 as to why he needs to go.
He is full of sh!t.
We went into Double Overtime last year against this same team in Lubbock without getting fatigued.
This clown wants us to believe that a year later we can’t make it past halftime?
What a fraud.
Did it look like we had trouble picking up the blitz in the first half while he was the #1 RB in there and Donovan threw 4 TD passes?
If he thought Saturday was hard lets see what he says in 3 weeks. These next 3 games are the 3 best teams on the schedule.
He is gonna say those teams needed the wins.
