Anyone know a good mechanic? I feel like I’m getting fleeced over here looking at what parts actually cost. In the Montrose area.

I need my front bearings replaced apparently. The shop near me is quoting me $1600
Should not be that much… tire shop did my front left wheel bearings for $300 last year & I talked to a mobile mechanic who would’ve done it for $200…
I had those bearings replaced, new front end suspension and 2 new tires for $1600 as a comparison…
This was done at Mavis (tire chain) in NC…
I use John’s Xpress Lube on Bissonet. He’s not the cheapest nor most expensive but he’s honest.
Christ, that’s way too much. Is your vehicle an S-Class or a 7 series? That quote is more of a dealership price.
If it’s a common vehicle like a F150 or a Camry, you could get some name brand bearings (or even OEM) on Rock Auto for half the price when compared to shopping at a brick and mortar store like Azo or Orly.
And if it is a common vehicle, you can DIY it. Plenty of great videos on YouTube.
Its a Mazda 6 lol. I was thinking about trying it myself, I just don’t have tools for that kind of stuff so I take it in. But I guess if I get the whole hub assembly I may not need any special tools.
John is such a good guy and honest mechanic. He bent over backwards to help me with an issue that no other shops could diagnose a few years back. And he solved it.
Tools are expensive (quality tools at least) but they are so worth it. An investment that pays for itself time and time again.
Being that it’s a Mazda 3, really it shouldn’t be that difficult. I did a quick search on YouTube and found some help videos on how to DIY it.
I do feel that the $1600 quote seems way too much though. $800-$900 seems more reasonable.
