Very nice job by the men finishing 3rd. Each round was an improvement. Bettered a lot of higher ranked teams. Hopefully peaking at the right time with confidence.
It looks like they’ve got one more round to go tomorrow with first tee time at 8am. Holding on to that 3rd spot is going to be tough with all those teams bunched up right behind them.
How many go to the regional
Thanks, completely forgot that this was a 4 round tournament. Keep it going!
I’m not sure we could’ve started any worse. Not even through 3 holes and we’ve already dropped two spots with a +7 as a team.
Choking as usual?
It looks like we’ve settled in. We’ve maintained the +7 with only a couple holes left to finish the front 9. Tech overtook us for third but they are on fire today sitting at -8 as a team. Next best on the day is #4 ranked Oklahoma State and they’re at -1.
Really nice comeback. Finished 4th, 1 behind tech. Think tech was up by around 15 at the turn. On to the regionals!
Wow. Chaotic
Southern Hills is unreal. Golf course is so challenging. Best players in the world played PGA there in 2022 and +5 made the cut. Coogs end up finishing 4th behind 3 schools that actually invest in their golf program.
All things considered - good tournament. Regionals next!
3Amigos is correct. I went to PGA at Southern Hills in 1982. Really challenging golf course.
To start +7 as a team through three holes and play the remaining 15 at -3 was really impressive. I didn’t see that coming with it being the final round and the pressure. Hats off to Tech for the low team round of the day clearing everyone by at least 3 strokes. It took a hell of a round to pass us. Still, finishing ahead of five higher ranked schools was impressive.
I caught the last handful of holes on ESPN+. We were actually tied with Tech for 3rd going into 17 and Wolfgang had about 15-20 footer for birdie and he went maybe 5 feet by the cup. Two of the other players went next and had somewhat similar lines and missed short/left. Wolfgang hung his par putt out to the right so not sure if he pushed it or over read the break. That put us one back of Tech. He was the only one that went driver on 18 and he pounded it down the middle and was the only one on in two. Had maybe a 10 footer for birdie and just missed, leaving us one back of Tech. Still a T3 individual finish. Fantastic showing. By the way, the guys that finished around him were ranked #12, #28, #29, #7, and #9. Wolfgang is ranked #91.
I’m also going to have to give props to Doggett as he turned it around when we needed him. Thru the first three rounds he was at +26 with I believe our 2nd worst individual score sitting at +10. Doggett’s score was tossed the first three rounds. On the 4th round it looked like it was going to be a continuation of the first three days as he started out with four straight bogeys. He then proceeded to play the remaining 14 holes at -4 (no bogeys) to post a team best even round for the day. The wheels could’ve really fallen off for him with the way things had been going but he showed some major grit to finish like he did. Without that we would’ve been staring at 8-9 place finish.
By the way, the ASU guy that whizzed in Rae’s Creek during the Masters finished one stroke behind Wolfgang.
