It’s been a good bowl game for years….Shreveport is a fun place to be for a couple of nights.
They put on a good experience with a great atmosphere for the players and fans.
Those days unfortunately are over. It is just professional sports now. Bowl experiences and tradition means absolutely nothing anymore.
Same. I’d guess it was a Nebraska game back a decade or two ago
And then those Cajuns in the endzone had their shirts off for at least the entire 4th quarter… iirc the high was 12 degrees…
Tune to Dell!
I don’t want another bludgeoning by Army.
I still enjoy them 51.
But I get your point.
Is there a reason why his contract wasn’t renewed? This is bizarre, he’s had a winning record every year lmao
Yeah, there has to some story behind this….at its face it’s a horrible look for the school……Coach gets you 10 wins and wins your conference?
And you let him and the team walk?
Gotta be more to it.
We Are Marshall Too
The entire team? Geez, how many guys is that? 70, 80? CRAZY!!
And most of the players feel like it’s a nice reward to end the season, as well as being a chance to get a good start on next year.
We hear about guys “opting out” and lose sight of the fact that there are a bunch more who are excited about playing.
Four coldest games I attended - Shreveport ULALA, Fort Worth Army, Dallas Notre Dame, Houston (I don’t remember if this was a Bluebonnet game at Rice Stadium or a Super Bowl. I do think Tulsa was playing with a noted receiver Howard Twilly and QB Jerry Rhome) but don’t remember if the BB was so cold or a SB was also cold about that time.
I remember when Louisiana Tech turned down a bowl invite because they were going to have to play a team from the Sun Belt Conference.
That probably came back to hurt them during realignment when ODU, Marshall, and USM were invited to leave C-USA and join the Sun Belt.
What is Marshall ADs problem? Tries to get coach fired, coach wins championship and then leaves because he doesnt have a contract extension. He takes So. Miss job…Then his players en masse enter portal and now Marshall does not have a football team… Guy who should be fired is that AD…He singlehandedly wrecked their football program with his actions.
Coldest one I attended was the UH-Boston College Cotton Bowl. We lived near Dallas, had tickets, but didn’t even try to go to the Notre Dame Cotton Bowl because the roads were so bad where we lived.
Like we did under Major?
I remember reading that ESPN makes big bucks off televising bowl games, even the lesser ones, which still get audiences about twice as large as most any other cable programming. And businesses get great advertising by attaching their names to bowls. So I don’t see them going away anytime soon.
Except WORSE!!!
And the local sponsors enjoy a subsidy from the teams playing in the game via the mandatory ticket buy.
While I enjoy watching bowls, they would make Ponzi proud.
If young folks have other interests than football, which they do, and pursue those interests then football as we now know it will lose a significant portion of their fanbase. The older “builder” fanbase is shrinking every day. Will a TV audience alone be enough to support a bowl game with few fannies in seats? Not anytime soon, but i foresee several of the lesser bowls close up shop, with the big 5 or 6 of them continuing with “names” like 'Bama, Cows, Okies, Farmers, etc.etc." Each and every year will be the same, eventually it’ll get to the point (as it is for me now) as to who cares. Besides, my dog really needs that walk.
