The Padres would have beaten the Yanks
The Padres probably should have won game 1 vs lad. Eight lad batters walked, but only four of those walks were legit. The ohtani 3-run homer wouldnât have been because he wouldnât have come to the plate that inning. Funny how game changing calls in lad, nyy, or nym games always seem to benefit the teams with la or ny on their caps.
âA Bronx Failâ
Isnât that like wet water?
Please explain how the walks were not legit? The Padres lost because they finished the NLDS with 24 scoreless innings. Itâs real hard to win without scoring runs. That was their problem along with shooting off their mouths too much, and trying to incite their opponents crowd instead of playing baseball.
This should have been the 1st out. Rojas would have been the 3rd out and Ohtani wouldnât have come to the plate in the second.
I was wrong about 8 lad walks. That was nyy in game 1 vs KC. Three of those walks should have been Kâs, the 4th, a 3-1 count.
The umps are far from perfect, and you could probably go back to most games and find the home plate umpire making an impact on the game by making a questionable call.
Check out Ump Scorecard which gives a good review by game of the home plate umpireâs accuracy and impact on the game. I canât vouch for their accuracy, but I think they do a good job in their analysis. For instance, in the NLDS the Dodgers were favored in 4 of the 5 games by the HP umpire, but only slightly. By their estimation, it was by .2 runs per game or less. Contrast that to the deciding Game 5 of the World Series. While the HP umpireâs accuracy was considerably better than average, his calls favored the Yankees by a whopping 1.64 runs, and Game 3 gave the Yanks a .99 run advantage.
I think, by and large, umps are good at what they do. Itâs more like pleasing your head chef. If he likes more salt you give him more salt. You canât be an allspice guy with a salty umpire
