Sam Houston State University. The mutt, born in 1941, reportedly belonged to a student who couldn’t continue taking care of him when he graduated in 1948. Tripod had a lame left front paw, but he still “dominated the canine life of the campus” until his death in 1962. Classes were canceled for Tripod’s funeral, which included a three-gun salute.
