Over the years the only times I ever really had problems with opposing fans was when visiting schools like Ole Miss, Florida, Florida State, Agy Hi and UT, but these visits all came in the late '60’s when we had black players and they did not lol.
Ole Miss was a bad experience but in 1968 I think the Texas fans were as bad if not worse.
Since those days everything has been much more tamer, although I still remember playing SMU when some of their fans hung a banner in the Astrodome, “Beat the Coogroes.”
Ever since we started playing Texas Tech I have always thought they had a really good fan base, but an obnoxious bunch to boot. They, in my opinion, have always thought very highly of themselves.
I would rank Tech tops in the Big 12 for sure. At this point I don’t care about the ones in other conferences.
Oh don’t get me wrong. There are PLENTY of good reasons to hate them, the biggest reason being the one that you mentioned.
But as far as being “annoying” fans, doesn’t a school have to actually have sports fans in significant numbers in order for said fans to be annoying?
I honestly can’t remember ever meeting a die hard SMU sports fan.
I had a run in with a Miss State fan outside the stadium the year they finally beat us.
Football no, basketball maybe.
There’s a reason why Texas Tech fans are the only opposing fans that UH fans fight at the games
Historically, the answer is Texas, but right now, the answer is Tech. Laughable putting Houston ahead of them, if you are going by how things are right now.
I guess you’ve never had a beer bath from UT fans or eggs thrown at you from Aggie fans
I don’t know about that; some of our fans, who post often, are pretty obnoxious and brag about going on other teams’ sites and being total A-holes.
Well, I generally do NOT do that.
But I’m the most gung-ho Coog fanatic at my office, much to the rest of the office’s chagrin I’m sure!
#GrayTheCoog was a treasure
I met some in Chapel Hill last year… 2 ![]()
Oh yeah… they’re pretty bad… they should stick those cowbells… ummm… somewhere.
My wife gets mad at me at least once a season. I’m always a very respectful visiting fan, and from my experience, so are most fans that come to a game at our place. When they’re not though, I will, in a fun loving way, match their energy.
I think it was at Moody Coliseum at a basketball game during the SWC years. They wouldn’t dare put up a racist poster like that in Houston.
I remember having to escort a few Cougar Dolls back across the UT-Austin campus from the stadium to their ride because insanely obnoxious UT-Austin fans hurled every derogatory word you can think of at them and to be honest, I can understand why the women were rightfully fearful. The vitriol was palpable.

The only time i physically felt unsafe?
At Hawaii. Nothing came close to that bowl game.
Wait until we deal with LSU fans next year when we play them at Reliant Stadium.
They weren’t that bad at the bowl game. Much better than expected. Maybe I was just lucky because we won.
No, but Cody should buy Overton Insights and move Tech up to #2. Aggies will always be #1, so no use fighting that.
They may change with their Coach, Kiffin is a d1ck, hope they stay true to their nature.
Their tailgating at Reliant next year will kick our asses. They usually aren’t bad at all, their softball fans are world renowned for being welcoming and friendly when playing at Baton Rouge, that’s what I experienced first hand.
