If solar and wind energy could produce plastic, cement and steel as cheap as fossil fuels, then renewable energy would already be the current energy ecosystem across the world
Fact of the matter is, it can’t do that, and fossil fuel companies will have to increase prices for refined products not directly related to gasoline transportation in order to remain profitable (not go bankrupt) because said products will still be highly in demand, such as cement and steel for road/highway infrastructure
Your binary mind can’t comprehend that going EV doesn’t mean 100% renewables. Who ever said that? But it’ll make our finite oil reserves last longer. Win win.
I’m not being binary, nor am I suggesting it should be one or the other. I’m merely stating the economics of this transition.
What oil reserves are you referring to? The SOR are only supposed to be used for emergencies.
“Untapped” reserves in shale basins are essentially near empty, and opening federal lands to oil drilling is never going to happen due to lawsuits. Capital in the space is drying out fast, hence why the majors are buying up all the smaller companies
You can’t have the majority of the vehicle market as EVs without impacts to other petroleum-based products. If EVs are even 50% of the vehicle market, then that will force fossil fuel companies to increase oil prices to stay in business, which means the price to buy cement and steel increases. The price of plastic increases (which is needed for EV manufacturing)
If we continue to subsidize highways and roads via a gas or mileage tax, either way, it’s the taxpayer that will have to foot the bill
Are you willing to pay for this? This is also disregarding the infrastructure upgraded needed for an EV economy in the first place which will also cost taxpayer money.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t transition to EVs. We should.
But this idea that the status quo American way of life can sustain itself is a fallacy without cheap fossil fuel energy, which ironically, many Americans feel entitled to
Ummm oil reserves means oil that’s already known to exist. I guess you don’t know much about oil or electricity, yet you keep spouting of you bs opinions that is so evidently received from your media. ie, Greenland.
What’s funny is the anti EV crowd, is just following what their big oil/media tell them. EV’s will bring down the grid? No, but something else might. They won’t have the fake outrage about it though, since it doesn’t affect big oil.
And the Saudis know this. If they cut production to try and make more money, it’ll push more people to buy EVs, not because it’s green, but because it’s cheaper to fill up. You know who doesn’t care about that? Iran, Venezuela and Russia, because we’re boycotting them anyway, so it’s in their best interest to keep pushing for war to try and keep oil prices up. Do you think that Russia and Iran don’t like selling their oil to China and India at discount prices because they’re the only once that can buy their oil?
Everything you post is anti EV even if you keep saying you’re not. Either you’re too dim to not know or you’re doing it on purpose to try and spread disinformation. I hope its the latter.
Don’t know; maybe …
1 They are true believers in free markets ?
2 Their consumers demand choices and best bang for the buck ?
Hey, if S. Korea’s Hyundai can come in lower than BYD, that’s a good thing. But I’m suspicious if that’s really true.
Should note, I know very little how Japan manages trade or use of tariffs. It would appear they are not big in protectionism at this point for the EV market.
