Its tomorrow, no booms?
Hopefully Austin C signs tomorrow
Just had one yesteray
There will be more.
Carlisle will sign with the Coogs and teammate receiver Dane Jones will sign with TCU
I am interested to see how much impact not having an OC has on signing day. We know what offensive philosophy Fritz wants to run, but some players may take a wait and see attitude to see who UH hires.
I may be wrong but I do not expect any big booms on Wednesday, other than the players who have already verbally committed.
Kade Phillips is a 4 star CB from Hightower that UH originally offered. He originally committed to Texas, then flipped to LSU and now back to Texas,
I’m beginning to think LSU’s NIL is not what it is cracked up to be. Brian Kelly, you are on the clock,
This is obvious…LSU will be one of the biggest losers in the new NIL era.
Poor school…poor fans…poor state
I keep saying it…look for a new hierarchy to develop.
Just give it time.
UH can be near the top of that hierarchy IF we tap into our endless resources inside the Houston metro.
Many people here still only think of NIl as “donations” …no! That bucket is not sutainable
Memorial Hermann and Chevron have already signed huge deals with UH athletics…this is just the start!
Last night, I had a conversation with Austin Carlisle and Zaylen Cormier:
Looks he’ll be here for spring practice
Since it became clear how NIL was going to shake out in its current state, I’ve been a broken record about how teams like Oregon and UT are going to be at the top of the football rankings every year because of it. Sure enough, Oregon is #1 and UT is #2. The only thing keeping the majority of the SEC afloat now is the ESPN bias and preseason rankings debacle. Viewership is no longer the driver of success. Typically you’d want on-field success to be rewarded, but when the on-field success is bought and paid for, it just becomes a corrupt sport. And the biggest pockets are buying their way to the top (ex. SMU).
Gives him an opportunity to win the job as a freshman.
He has a real shot at starting as a true freshman. Makes sense to be here for Spring.
yes, unfortunately teams like UT, Oregon and Ohio State will be undisputed Kings of the NIL world.
Large schools in rich powerful states in big markets with wealthy alums.
BUT Look for the Houstons, Georgia Techs, PITTS, UCFs, Cincinnatis, of the world to make.huge strides
Funny how it is going to work our but I fully expect the 3 AAC schools to run the Big 12 her soon!
We gotta have rich donors as well though. I don’t think you can put us in that camp yet with UT, Oregon, Ohio State, etc. I think we’ll be much closer in the next 10 years as our academics have vastly improved and we’re getting applications from kids who would t even consider us 10-20 years ago.
Oregon isn’t big or bigger than UH, (in fact, its enrollment is less than half that of UH), has a smaller endowment than UH once the TUF is considered, and a much smaller research budget, isn’t in an especially large or powerful state, and is in a state where the largest market is Portland.
So no. Bad argument.
Those AREN’T what drives NIL.
As I’ve said a gajillion times, NIL success is about having a) wealthy alums and donors that b) care enough about sports to fill the NIL honeypot.
Oregon has that, as does UT.
SMU appears to have it.
We, it would seem, don’t.
Not saying that can’t change, but it isn’t looking good so far.
Stanford, despite being among the richest of all, being near a large market, and being in a large, very powerful state, doesn’t appear to have it either.
Their rich alums simply don’t care enough about sports.
And THAT is what drives this.
The only equalizer for UH is that probably no other school is better equipped than UH to take advantage of the transfer portal…as we demonstrated with our defense this season.
DEAD WRONG!
NIL does not create better players…it just pays them.
You can still use the NIL resources to build a strong nucleus and pay for holes, as needed.
No school will be in better shape to to do that than the University of Houston.
Let me give you a pre-NIL example.
Yes, we lucked into 5 star Ed Oliver but once we landed him PLUS our nucleus…we beat FSU + OU + UL.
That’s the type of team building additions we can go after int he NIL world.
Just throwing money at players doesn’t create good teams…ask TAMU but IT DOES take players from teams that used to get them for free…i.e LSU & Alabama
Oh sure…IF you have the wealthy donors that care enough about sports to make such a thing happen.
But if you don’t…then OOF!!!
UT, Oregon, and SMU have that.
So far, we don’t.
yet…we have wealthy enough donors to land the #1 recruiting class in basketball including a 5 star center which doesn’t come cheap
they ALSO take NIL $$$, you know
