The P-5 widens the gap…but in all probability we weren’t going to recruit those type of guys anyways. It will not stop all the cheating in collegiate football or basketball.

Agreed, especially since the emergence of street pimps…these pimps were prominent even back into the early '70s and are not ashamed of throwing money figures around…and it has gotten much worse over the years as the money pile gets larger…
It said the vote was unanimous but we have to see the details. Something tells me it’s going to be something seriously watered down.

Don’t get lost in the weeds here.
-On any team how many players are going to be able to command significant money from their celebrity status? A few certainly will.
-As for the games, do you think game makers are going to drain their coffers to pay every player (even starters) on every D-1 team? I don’t see big bucks here.
-And if one player on a team can cash in, how are the teammates who make that possible going to react?
One report just came out that athletes who derive income from their celebrity status would possibly have their scholarships treated as income subject to income tax. Stay tuned. This is just the beginning.
all the talking heads keep saying this is great and people are overreacting about how much of a difference this is going to make.
in my opinion, its going to completely change the playing field. I am 1000000% against paying college athletes.
as a former athlete at UH I know first hand the perks student athletes get over regular students and that was in the early 2000’s. now days every sport has their own facility, own nutritionalist, own workout facilities, etc. kids get as much free food as they can handle, free tuition, free living, tons of free shoes and clothing, stipends, free haircuts, etc etc etc…
its unreal the life current athletes already get to live. this is going to open up a HUGE can of worms that won’t be able to be reversed. huge mistake.

what’s to stop a big money alumni from saying “hey 5 star stud, I’ll pay you $100,000 for your autograph if you come to Alabama” ???

If anything, the new rules will just give the NCAA more was to find violations to bust on schools and athletes for failing to comply with ridiculously complex and poorly worded regulations.
Can’t wait to see the what the change to the federal income tax code looks like. And I wonder if the schools will provide professionals to prepare and file the tax returns? Maybe a service project for the accountants and law students.
