A little late, but I was looking to put the puzzle together and came across that while I was going over some tape. Upside is that he has seen it before. Still a lot to be proven.
Seems like a guy like Joe Cauthen at Ark State wouldāve been a good DC choice. His D was ranked #29 overall http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/22 and averaged 4.99 yards/play which was close to our 4.80. He also has TX ties with a degree at SFA and coaching stints in Texas.
Can we move onā¦Coach D is here. Give the man a shot.
WE have no choice. The Dorito D is here
IN YOUR OPINION. And that is ALL it is: an OPINION. But you never miss an oportunity to try to drive home your disdain. Clearly you are a fan, and not an expert. Fans are entitled to opinions, but that is all they are: OPINIONS.
There are probably dozens of coaches who were candidates for this job. But our HEAD COACH, Major Applewhite, chose from among all those candidates the one guy he wanted for his DC. You ever been a head coach of a major football program? All this second guessing is simply a bunch of arm chair quarterbacks - what? - trying to impress us?
Your job and your career does not rest on the success of this decision. But the harping on this board will definitely affect the success of this program next year. Then you can take pride in saying you had a role to play.
Yeah, please put me down for 1 win & 1 loss. Thatās how impactful my posting is on this board towards victory.
When I was younger and more polarizing I could cause two to three losses per season with my posting but age has caught to me. Heck, my posts along with Kingfish are directly responsible for the 0-11 season. We would have been BCS bound if not for our posts.
It really hurts knowing that my posting will be ineffective in another 10 yeas.
CoachV is a staple in the UH community. I always take heed to what he has to say even if its something I dont like to hear.
WOW! Guess Iāve been taken to the woodshed by the Man. I might point out that I have my own history on this site and previously on Scout. And if Chris is indeed a coach that is great. Chris, ever get any whiners on a team you have coached? Nothing makes them happy so they infect the whole team. How do you handle that?
So, Chris, if you want to be the voice of negativity thatās your right. And your attempts at witticism aside, one voice is not the issue. There is a voice of negativity among a number of those who post here. AND they are by no means a majority. (And by now Iām pretty clear that a couple of them are not UH fans.) And ironically that is just exactly what happened to Coach D at Miami. Aināt that something. He was on a sinking ship surrounded by spoiled brats who whined about everything and I do mean everything. Iāve been following that situation for a couple of years. But of course, whiners are not satisfied with stating their point. They want to state it over and over and over and over. At some point it becomes noise and others have a right to respond to it.
And Chris is one of those who just keeps harping on the same issue. What do you want Chris? Instead of incessant whining what would make you happy, because the deal is done?
Should CMA, based on your opinion - and it is an opinion - fire the guy? What would make you happy and let us turn to more constructive issues? Please. By yourself itās just noise in the wind, and like I said, you are entitled to your opinion. As am I. When your voice is added to others here it becomes something more. Something pitiful. Like a 5 year old who canāt have his way and will wail and wail until mommy or daddy gives in. Enough, already. Again, WHAT do you want? Itās a done deal. So WHAT?
And to be clear, I have no personal animosity with you Chris. Heck, my wife often disagrees with me and weāve been married 35 years. You are probably a neat guy, but we disagree on this point and I want to state my disagreement. Since you are a coach, I work in sport psychology. Iām semi-retired, but I keep my hand in. Even have one UH athlete referred by his coach that Iām working with now. So, Iāll bet we could trade war stories. I know I have some. Itās not personal. Hell, Iāll be glad to buy you a beer at any game next year. OK?
You obviously havenāt seen Coach V dress⦠The Amish donāt like the way he dressesā¦and he could use a tanā¦too whiteā¦probably reeks of white guilt.
That you Roland? Just guessing. Well you really lost me on that. But you are right, I have never seen him dress. Not on my bucket list either. But Iāll bet he is no whiter than many of us. We all have a color and thatās great. My wife is Swedish. Talk about white. She blinds you in the dark. Most of the athletes I work with are African-American. My son went to a high school that was 14% White. His choice and Iām proud of it. Any clarification would be welcome.
Iām fine with Coach D coaching the d. Statistically, he wouldnāt be a top choice of mine but Iād like to hear from CMA what attracted him to D. When Iāve hired, itās sometimes been personal recommendations. Of course, I canāt get as much information about potential employees as CMA could.
After the fact, Levine told me that Nesbitt was his 7th or 8th choice. I hope we never hear that D was more than the second or third choice. [Even Orgeron at LSU was clearly the 3rd choice at best.] Iām hopeful that we close with a strong defensive recruiting class and have a bang-up year and we never wonder what could have been.
Well, we are totally, and I mean totally, in agreement. I have doubts and I have questions. But the deal is done and there is nothing to be gained by harping on it. And negativity is like a virus. It spreads. So weāre all on wait and see. Thanks for sharing.
The comment was a dig at Coach V. A joke between the two of us.
How could I miss that?
Our season tickets were propped up this year by scalpers because there were two Top 5 foes in the package. Plus, there was a chance weād be invited to the Big 12. Plus we were coming off a Peach Bowl and ranked Top 15.
We sold 23K but probably would have been closer to 18-20K without the scalpers.
Without a preseason Top 25 club, the Big 12 off the table and a normal home schedule, I fully expect us to fall back to 18-20K season tickets.
You are probably right. That just means we have to win big, pull a Baylor and blow up the score board and go undefeated. Given our schedule we might - I say, MIGHT - be able to do that. Some of those AAC teams can really sneak up on us so every game becomes a trap. Should be fun.
Coach O made a point of telling Major, when asked, that the man HE would hire to maintain the 3-4 attacking defense we use, was Coach Dāonofrioā¦The guy worked miracles at Temple, and maintained the situation at Miami for all but the last year, despite what appear to be a number of very adverse circumstances that made it real hard to work thereā¦
I think coach D will do well here, as long as we give him some decent talent to work with on that side of the ballā¦
God this board is depressing.
Kinda feel bad for AJ Ricker. He obviously thought he had the job at one point to put it on his twitter as his new job. Between that and thinking he had a new job a couple of years ago only to see his new head coach fired before he coached his first practice, he hasnāt been very lucky.
