Watched the TCU vs North Carolina game just to watch college football for the 1st time this season. TCU lost by 5 points because of penalties. 10 compared to 2 by NCU.
One penalty TCU got called for was for pointing the arm forward toward goal line designating 1st Down. This year the refs are purposely targeting that as over celebrating. We do that all the time on first downs. I always liked it.
I hope we’ve trained for that. It’s a loss of 1st Down and momentum.
This is great. I hate it when the players look like they’re having fun.
What a stupid rule.
Twice, TCU chose not to kick FGs on 4th short situations in the Red Zone. which in hindsight would have won the game.
It was a pro/con dilemma for the HC.
Kick FGs and keep the game within reach.
Go for 4th and short to demonstrate that you have confidence in the offense to make a 1st down on 4th and 1, and again on 4th and 2.
Tough decision that went against TCU.
Yes, in the case of our last game played against the horn we would have been called for extended arm and the Refs would not have to cheat us by giving UH a bad spot.
I asked about the 1st down penalty and here is what I got.
Under NCAA rules, pointing for a first down only triggers a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty if the gesture is directed directly at an opponent as a form of taunting, or if it incorporates prohibited elements like simulated weapons or banned gestures. Otherwise, standard non-directed celebrations remain permitted.
I’ve seen several do it in the Jax St. vs. NDSU game and it hasn’t been called.
That was a BS call on Payne, drive killer and changed the complexion of an otherwise plodding and wet game. He pointed a first down, harmed no one. Not penalty worthy, smarter refs in the NDSU game
Seen the same thing in multiple games today with no other penalties called.
AI needs an update. This is a recent change.
Will Sonny Dykes/TCU get fined by the conference for this?
"During his postgame press conference, Dykes was asked what TCU could’ve done to not have so many penalties and he responded, “Not have ACC officials.”
That is no doubt the worst penalty call of the season.
Really questionable for an official to flag
that.
Those refs killed any momentum TCU could muster on offense. But TCU still beat themselves IMO.

SOB… I was just watching the replay and went to Sheetz to get a breakfast burrito and now I know who wins… lol

I know it looked very bad on TV, but if they’ve warned everyone before the game not to do it & you do it, well then you’re the dumbass and not the rule…
They are not mutually exclusive. A penalty flag on the rule, 15 yards for dumbassery conduct, offsetting penalties, replay the down.
I couldn’t believe it was a penalty when I saw it… but if they supposedly warned everybody then I would just practice handing the ball to the refs after every run or something like that…
