I’d love for Texas to get rid of the front plate as well.
I never put my front plate on when I bought my latest vehicle 5 years ago and no officer has ever said anything about it during the couple times I’ve been pulled over since then.
So what am I supposed to use my printer for?
If you’re getting plates at the dealer, shouldn’t they streamline the registration as well and make it an all-in-one process? The registration sticker can go back on the plate.
Seriously, the database and tech should perform a thumb print biometrics scan, the TDL is scanned, insurance is verified, and registration sticker prints out at the dealer and slapped on the plate.
For private sellers, I see that the buyer takes the plates with them and registers the vehicle. Again, private sells should be through a verification process where registration is performed. Not sure how this could be achieved but I believe this would crack down on uninsured motorists.
Skimmed the article on my phone.
Saw it mentioned one version with plates staying with the car that passed a couple years ago, then this new version where the plates stayed with the person when they got a new/dealer used car. But the second version seemed they would go with the buyer on a private sale.
Wont this kill any support for custom plates? If someone had Coog1 as their plate then they could not sell their car to an individual without losing the plate. What if the private sale buyer did not want Coog for their plate because they were a Rice alum.
Why do you need plates or driver’s licenses unless you are doing something commercial.
Otherwise you are “Traveling” and not “driving”.
There should be no law on this good Earth that should restrict your travels.
(And before you all respond and come down on me, I am just a fan of some funny social media videos, not making a political comment in any way, shape or form)
Altima drivers in shambles…
My county in Washington doesn’t do inspections. Just pay your money once a year and put the little sticker on the plate.
They did for a couple of years….i think Law enforcement asked for it to be reinstated.
Big city cops don’t care but I was pulled over twice for no front plate going through little towns so I reluctantly put it back on.
That makes too much sense.
If crooks can’t print their own fake temporary paper tags, they’re just going to go back to stealing other people’s metal plates.
exactly. i am not sure why they don’t just take metal plates. go to any mall and you have a thousand to choose from, i see a paper plate about once a week.
They’ll just use out of state paper tags, or 3D printed fake tags, or most likely just steal other people’s tags
Which means now I have to get or invent theft proof screws for my license plates
Thing is if you steal a plate and gets reported, it’ll show up on all the plate readers around town. My city has plate readers when you enter and leave, so they’re keeping an eye on everyone.
The chief says the technology helped officers to recover 75 stolen vehicles in 2021.
The average before ALPRs was three per year.
“Pretty darn good,” Schultz said.
He says 61% of the “hits” from the ALPRs last year were from vehicles involved in crimes.
I’ve gotten stopped numerous times for that in two different vehicles, but it’s always in some rural area. If you drive around San Angelo, it’s almost a 100% certainty that they’ll use “no front license plate” as pretext to pull you over, especially if you have tinted windows.
