North Shore has being doing what?
Incorrect I actually know the school, the coaches and many coaches around the district.
It is not about me being a fan. So yeah you can move on for sure.
The idea that they or any team in Katy ISD is spending the energy recruiting players and stashing them is a ridiculous claim. The on truth is the program has recruited itself and they get calls all the times.
The stats, transfers and overall talent does not support that is has been a practice.
What they have done much like UH basketball with their resources, total enrollment and constantly having the district lines shift due to expansion has been remarkable.
When was the last time Katy did not win their district or they had a bad year. Maybe in the 80’s
But what if another Katy ISD coach says something differently in how they do things?
2020 actually. Their 75 game district win streak was snapped by Tompkins. They still won the state championship that year though.
The junior high schools that are tributaries to Katy run the same offense and defense as KHS. By the time they get to KHS they are already immersed in the Katy system. They have also been through extensive training periods in junior high and then it gets much more so at KHS. That’s the system, nothing illegal. That and they drill with the type of expectations attributed to Nick Saban.
However, I do know that many parents move into the Katy HS boundary so their sons can go to KHS. My daughter and her family moved into the KHS footprint just for that reason, my son-in-law wanted Henry to be able to go to KHS. My 7th grade grandson plays for Katy Junior High and is pumped because he can go to Katy HS. If they hadn’t moved, he would have gone to Paetow. I wish they had stayed because they were only 7 doors down from me.
But Katy high coaches don’t have the same success when they leave - if they do let me know
But in a district as large as Katy why doesn’t that same philosophy work all over in similar areas? Are other non khs junior highs renegades? lol
Too many schools opening too fast. When I moved to Katy in 1989 there were 3 high schools, now there are 10. I don’t know how many junior highs there are and the whole area is just exploding with new subdivisions and expansions of existing ones. Paetow won state in 5A in just a few years of existence. Tomkins has been very good.
But, I don’t hear of parents moving into the footprint of the other schools so their sons can go to Morton Ranch, Paetow, Tompkins, etc.
But see that right there can be taken advantage of. It’s easy to just say, “They just moved here because they wanted to” But even though Gary Joseph himself may not go out and ask them to move into the area, his assistant or even some booster who is close to the program could make a day trip to channel view or somewhere and say to a dad, “It’s mighty fine to live in Katy these days”. But anyways…
On the other hand the coaches elsewhere could do the same. I guess only Katy is a place people would want to live and have their sons play football.
My local neighborhood high school, Katy Jordan, is the newest.
They did fairly well during their first season in 19-6A.
Maybe they’ll contend soon.
I can remember when Lamar, Yates, and Washington were the powers in HISD simply because they all had “magnet” programs that allowed them to bring in players from way outside their zones.
Not sure if that has changed.
yates and booker t? lol - they may have had a few but those teams were built on neighborhood players from 3rd Ward area and Studewood - there was enough talent out there - now? those same areas where people lived have been replaced by townhomes with little to no kids
Lamar always took full advantage of the programs - outside of 4th ward no historically african American neighborhood was zoned to Lamar but they had plenty over there which was the reason Worthing and Sterling never has been consistent and then Yates and Booker T always had a missing piece which played out the zone
Milby basketball was another
Am I right is saying the Lamar Texans haven’t been that good since Tom Nolen was head coach?
Yep. I know when Nolen was there, they would go to the middle schools and invite them to come to Lamar that way. He came to my middle school and after our basketball practice, talked to several of us (who also played football). I’m not sure if they still practice that under their new coaches.
You’re right. I only have this limited, uneducated view of Katy football based off of my encounter with the former player who said that these things took place. I guess in the grand scheme of things, there could be the chance that he himself was misinformed or viewed the situation incorrectly. But he seemed pretty certain.
Gary Joseph’s son is the head coach at Port Neches-Groves and they’re playing South Oak Cliff for the 5A state title this weekend.
That and some people love to exaggerate and distort the facts.
GF lives close to PNG stadium. Love how that area gets into it…FNL Baby !, does it get any better than that
Fun Fact…Bum was HC at Nederland and PNG before he became DC for UH
I’m from Beaumont, my HS was bad in the 90s and early 2000s but we were a regional powerhouse when I played in the mid/late 2000s and throughout the 2010s. Once we started spanking Nederland and PNG, they wouldn’t schedule us anymore. Nederland even got out of renewing an annual non-district matchup LMAO.
