PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown senior linebacker John Perdue’s strong senior season has been recognized as the Houston, Texas native has been named an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American.
He is the first Brown player to earn All-America honors from the AP since multi-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion Zak DeOssie in 2006.
Perdue is one of 12 Ivy Leaguers to earn AP All-America honors, eight of whom made the honorable mention list. Perdue was previously named Honorable Mention All-Ivy in November.
As one of the Bears’ captains this season, Perdue started all 10 games at middle linebacker, leading the team and ranking second in the Ivy League with 88 total tackles (8.8 tackles per game) and three interceptions. He added four pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, 3.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.
Brown won its last two games of the 2025 season to finish 5-5 overall.
Our gene pools work like swirling a jar of marbles around and picking some at random. I don’t know where John got his size, speed and athleticism. I didn’t have it and neither did any of my 3 sons. John’s other talents is he is a mathematical genius. Again a gift God chose not to bequeath me or my sons. To answer the question John has no ambition to play football following his graduation. He will be working for a company that trades oil futures. He has already concocted some mathematical formula (which I cannot understand even when it is explained to me) for trading in the energy industry. I have no doubt he will become the richest of our tribe.
