Bad timing or maybe good timing? The Houston Texans announced last week a brand new practice facility in NW Harris County for hundreds of millions of dollars. This week, NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans, the roof leaked during a Monster Jam event. Maybe there is room on the new property for new stadium.
Memo to Houston Texans: When you build the next stadium, ditch the idea of a retractable roof. It’s a major gimmick that rarely comes into play and adds to the cost of the stadium.

The roof issue is typical on how Harris County managed the stadium maintenance.
Before delivery the stadium went through countless inspections. Each areas of the stadium went through inspections. The roof itself went through inspections.
It makes no sense whatsoever that the roof had issues after an hurricane…read again what I mentioned. The roof itself was designed to sustain much stronger winds that damaged it. Something happened and to this day Harris county has not explained what it was. Faulty roof? That is on the manufacturer and G.C.
At the end of the day here is that Harris County has shown that they can’t manage a building that has cost tax payers plenty.
Personally, I see no reason for a movable roof. If you want outdoor games, don’t build a roof. If you want an indoor game put a roof on it and let is go at that. The extra expense for an opening roof that is only used a couple of times a year is unwarranted – again, in my opinion.
