Thanks Patrick. I’m hoping Bryan Jones commit creates some momentum and helps us reel in Harris, Frederick and Robertson. John Davis would be a nice surprise.

As an aside, Tom Herman is not much of a recruiter. He just can’t stop coming after UH recruits. Honestly at last year’s recruiting event, I found it troubling that he hadn’t parlayed the dream season into any stud recruits. I think King was the only commit from after the season started.

Bryan Jones is a huge pull from Major, and I’m hoping it leads to Harris, Frederick and Robertson. Hopefully we finish with 20+. 2 spots is plenty to
hold as there is always a few that leave the program after spring for various reasons.

I think it’s interesting that our former coach is now going after out of state players (Robertson) when a big knock on Charlie Strong was that he went after Florida players when he took over instead of staying in Texas.

He may run into some issues there. Strong was well liked by recruits in Texas and everyone saw what Herman did towards the end. Doesn’t help that they are in the Big12 with a schedule of OU, OK State and … or that they went 5-7 last year. Also doesn’t help that he went 9-3 here with that bad loss to SMU or the loss after the “eye-tick” to Memphis.

And while he seems to have a handle on social media with advertising, he doesn’t seem to understand that recruits, players, HS coaches all do too, and they do it through more venues than just twitter and Facebook. He’s getting raked right now for going after our recruits when they are “just” 3 star guys across many venues.

Speaking of which, saw in an article that he spied on us through forums. Guessing he made the move over here when we moved; wonder what his or one of his coach’s/intern’s handle was.

Lastly, his schtick played well at Houston because we have this huge chip on our shoulder (for good reason) and had access to Houston celebs, many of whom are popular with the kids. Austin has their own culture, but a different type of celebrity and he can’t play the scrappy underdog role there. Will he be able to pivot?

Of course, winning cures all; he wins next year and recruits will follow. Looking at their schedule, he should go no worse than 8-4 and may go 10-2, Big 12 is just very weak. I think they lose at USC, lose to OU, lose at West Virginia and probably at home to Ok State. Problem is trying to accurately guess as Herman tended to win the big ones and lose the ones he shouldn’t. Also depends on how early he gets buy-in from the players already there; big part of his success here.

I wonder how well the defense will fair. I know last year they couldn’t stop anything. And i wouldn’t be surprised if teams attack Orlando with passes to the sideline. He’s been exposed.

Robertson chose La Tech so cross him off.

Good question. Lot of good and unique offenses in the Big12; a lot of them rely on passing the ball. Can Hermans’ offenses keep up? They were never much to write home about in Houston.

Agreed. Kid wanted to stay close to home; good on him.

Great topic about Tom Herman recruiting skills…

Terry Wright chose Purdue

Went with Levine. Ah well, we’re in good shape at WR with Singleton and the guys we got last year…

I played around with the 247 Class Calculator. With Amik Robertson and Terry Wright off the board, there are very few targets left who will move the needle on our class rating:

Josh Allen
Josh Rogers
John Davis
David Anenih
Langston Frederick

One of the best things we can do is keep Cosmi.

BTW, Cosmi’s rating went up in anticipation of a flip to Texas. Was rated 80 for a while then jumped to 83.

Josh Allen would be a big get. I’m going to give CMA a pass in 2017. I’m just glad UH hold on to Smith & Singleton. I think this will be a pretty solid class. I expect him to take it up a notch or two next year.

Very few players in an entering class will make an immediate impact. Big Ed may have spoiled us in that regard. I’m just hoping the freshmen (beyond D’Eriq King and Colin Wilder) from last year are ready to make an impact in the fall. Looking at you in particular Marquez Stevenson, Courtney Lark, Keith Corbin, Keenen Murphy, Dixie Wooten, Patrick Rosette, K’Darian Smith, Terry Mark, and Javian Smith.

We have so much young talent on this team. Just hope we can develop them into meaningful contributors.
