Ole Miss QB injured in meaningless Bowl Game ….. what say you Kirk and Desmond?

Of course I would never hope for any player to get injured at any juncture. Bowl game, regular season or spring practice. I was raised to respect everyone’s right to have an opinion. If you listen you might actually learn something despite disagreeing. But in this case I will make an exception. Your hopefully rhetorical question was both asinine and juvenile.

The point I am trying to make is that it is not about a person’s character. Sure in some instances it is, but the bulk of these athletes it isn’t. It is a choice about what is best for them. The same choice people across the country make everyday to leave their job.

When you give 2 weeks notice, that doesn’t mean that all of your projects or task are going to be complete when you leave. it doesn’t mean that the person behind you doesn’t have to pick up where you left off. You are still leaving your employer with a gap to fill and the people you work with shorthanded.

Coaches, and other players know that they aren’t going to participate. It is not a last minute decision, they know before hand. I would assume it is probably a joint decision between the coaches and the player about what is best for that individual.

It was a legitimate question after reading your commitment post. Is it about being with the team or not? The coaching staff, admin, and players supported Jones and Hall not playing and consider them as fulfilling their commitment. Should that be good enough for fans?

Then tell me where in my post that you referred to did I wish for or hope for a player to get hurt? I stand by my response. (RETRACTED-response to FortWorthCoog below)

I’m super confused. I have not posted anything about people wishing for injuries.

The Ole Miss QB did NOT suffer a severe injury. He sprained his ankle!!! It sure wont affect his contract or money…
There is no excuse not to play in a bowl game…I’ve watched them for over 50 yeas and cant hardly EVER remember a kid getting a severe injury before his pro career started…Just a whining excuse, invented by their lawyers…

Not going to argue over something I don’t know for certain. Have a great day sir

Your argument doesn’t really have validity. Just because you personally have not witnessed something in your lifetime does not mean it cannot happen. It is a risk and reward assessment. I may not get struck by lighting but I am not going to go dance in a thunderstorm.

All bowl games are good for is your entertainment and making Schools/Sponsors money. I would never jeopardize a potential NFL contract just to give the university an extra dime.

I am sure some lawyer or agent somewhere is whispering in their ears. But that does not mean they don’t have a valid point.

Who was that?

Scroll up.

FortWorthCoog, My emotions were typing faster than my brain could comprehend. I owe you an apology. It’s obvious that I am the one that was confused. Eat Em Up.

I really doubt seriously Carrier lost millions. Never saw him projected as a high pick. He was great at UH but I don’t think he is a good example.
Maybe Case should have skipped the game at UCLA where he had a season ending injury.
But he still turned out well.
Every game is risk when you go to war with your teammates

Willis McGahee ring a bell?

Or, you can read this article.

Jake Butt, a TE from Michigan had a serious knee injury in his bowl game after the 2016 season. He was selected in the draft, sat out a year, got a 6 figure settlement from his loss of value insurance policy, and tore an ACL when he played again in 2018. He is retired from football, and says he has no regrets about his decision to play in a bowl game. He also is reported as stating that each situation is different and we fans should support whatever decision is made by a player.

Yup. Agree. It’s their decision.

And they don’t owe any of us a damn thing.

Who said any athlete “owes” we fans anything?
There should never be another thread on attendance because some, maybe many fans opt out.
So you can get hurt in a minor bowl but not a final 4 game?
When will top hoopsters start opting out to protect their health? Baseball? Should a sure first rounder opt out for the playoffs?
Players and fans have a right to bail anytime they want. But without fans sports are doomed.

No one had explained to me yet if as a society we are ok with a coach making “business decisions” why is it bad for the players to also make business decisions?

I get it we all still want it to be 25 years ago when it wasn’t a big business loyalty to the school and the team mattered. For everyone.

How would anyone remember some TE at Michigan getting hurt, unless you live in Michigan and are a Wolverine fan…And why? Because it wasnt NEWS back then at all…What would have been news was a player refusing to play because he thought he might get hurt…
