On3: Coogs land UT transfer Chendall Weaver

thos guys were starters

starter to 13mins… is the same as 18 mins to bench time

and cedrick went to no minutes at the end

These top HS athletes came in with certain guarantees. No way they sign without it.

I heard Chase McCarty was tearing it up from the beginning and in hindsight should have been ahead in the rotation from the start. Chase did get hurt for a few games…but we already had a better version of Harwell already on our team and most likely for a lot less NIL.

Im not mad he’s gone. He wasnt going to beat out Chase. And we dont need a 3 and D guy as a 6th man. We need a scorer off the bench.

No Kyle he wasn’t “supposed” to have been a prep All-America, he was.
He was coming off an injury and for whatever reason lost his shooting touch and confidence.
I have said it before, wish he had stayed here and worked it out but I assume he was probably going to take a pay cut.
Who knows, he may never get his shooting eye back, and at this point since he is not a Coog I don’t care.

I am in the camp that Harwell had talent and was recovering from injury and did not perform well offensively his freshman season. I thought his defense was fine, above average for being a freshman. He had to sit, because other players were more productive.

I find the continued criticism of the young man to be unnecessary.

I don’t understand the Harwell hate at all tbh. He didn’t play great offensively and I’m sure that was discouraging for him, as it would be for any 18 year old kid, especially as highly touted as he was. He wanted to be here and he remained a good team player and supported his teammates til the very end. I still believe he’ll be a very good player. Watching his interviews through his recruitment into his time at UH he seems like a great kid. Sometimes a change of scenery is all a kid needs. Look at Quentin from Kansas to UH. Time will tell

So his coming back from injury only affected his offense but not his defense? :joy:

I was confused from the start. Did King ball so hard to where he took the starting spot? Or were we going 3 guards from the beginning and IH was pretty much guaranteed 6th man off the bench for 20 or more min per game?

Was he supposed to start and King off the bench?

He got several opportunities to keep that 6th man job at the expense of others. He came in and it looks like he immediately jumped Mercy and Chase just off of hype. He defended nice. Not enough to have that 6th man on lock like he did. CKS gave him enough chances. Maybe 1 too many

If we dont go on that 3 game losing streak, Harwell probably doesn’t “benched”

Blame the starters, for putting alot pressure on the bench to produce

Sampson is a HOF coach. But if you lose confidence in yourself which, we’ve seen several guys do. Hes probably not the right coach for you

it’s not hate… I don’t care what he does at Gonzaga…

It’s just facts that he wasn’t good last season and I think something happened after that 3 game losing streak other than just not hitting shots.

That’s it.

You bring up some good points. It went from a little time to just mop up. And Sampson plays good defenders. He’s not benching a good defensive player like that.

Had to be mad at getting minutes cut because it was a period where he was splitting with RW and Chase. He started at around 20. Chase was patient in all this mess. Mercy too.

If things went the way it was supposed to i dont think Mercy or Chase plays much.

Speaking of Chase and Mercy, how was their shooting as true freshman? I recall Mercy going through a stretch of B12 games where he didn’t hit a shot other than a few FT’s. Chase wasn’t much better. Now we’re anticipating both to play significant roles this coming season.

I guess we’ll never know what could’ve been with Harwell had he stayed at UH. My guess is he would’ve improved much like Mercy, Chase, and just about everyone else that stayed at UH more than a year. I’ll also go out a limb and predict he develops into a nice player under Few. Regardless, I never heard him say one bad word about UH and I wish him nothing but the best at Gonzaga.

For real, this turned into a Harwell thread

Funny that you bring that up… I believe it was CKS in an interview recently, but might’ve been Kellen, that talked about how Sasser almost left after his freshman season but then his mama told him to toughen up and get back to UH and get to work…

What is this… Sasser’s 4th NBA season coming up?

Yeah… that’s right… CKS said some toughen up and make it and some don’t iirc.

I don’t know if Harwell is going to turn out to be great or maybe he turns out to be just a spot up shooter. What I saw while he was here was a guy with real limitations on offense. He likely started putting a lot of pressure on himself to produce added to the adjustment of fewer minutes made him a tight shooter.

Neither were McDonald’s All Americans and 5 stars. I tend to agree, I expected more from Harwell.

This is exactly why I don’t get caught up in the stars or ratings.
