Just leave the THC vape pen at home!
I know they play hard, but so does the USCL/XFL players. They practice and play hard, maybe they should get NFL money?
The jumping of the shark on their part is not wise.
Also a very unpopular point, with half the population being women, why aren’t they supporting the sport at a higher level? My wife is not a sports fan and has never wanted to see a wnba game. When asked why, she said they are terrible.
She’s already not a sports fan so how would she know? Why would she care? It amazes me how many people who claim not to watch or care about the WNBA have such strong opinions on if the players should get a raise or not.
No they should get USCL/CFP money. The WNBA players aren’t asking for NBA money or NFL money, they are asking for a more equivalent revenue share. Without the players, there’s no product and no revenue.
Yeah, people really don’t understand what they are asking for. At least spend a couple of minutes looking into it before being critical.
Most entertaining thing to happen in a WNBA game, lol.
So tell us.
I haven’t follow this close, but I hear they want revenue sharing like the NBA has.
‘IF’ their league is losing money then revenue sharing doesn’t make sense.
The NBA players get ~50% of revenue while WNBA players get less than 10%.
I’m not saying you have to agree. Everyone should at least spend a couple of minutes to understand though. I don’t follow this closely either. I just asked ChatGPT a few weeks ago when it first popped up.
I agree it would be a challenge to get anywhere close to that right now. But maybe commitments could be made depending on profitability.
What I am saying is, women don’t like watching sports in general, and pretending that they do is silly. She has watched enough sports at my side to know the product.
Hey, my daughter was a varsity wrestler. Team captain for 2 years. Pretty good. I loved watching her wrestle because she was my daughter. But it was still not the most entertaining thing happening at the meets, the boys wrestling was. There was the occasional ‘Kaitlyn Clark’ kind of wrestler, but overall it was just not as good as the boys wrestling.
The wnba players believe they are on par with their male counterparts. They need reality.
They are asking for the same percentage of a much smaller pie. No one watches, they still don’t make much money.
You can argue they don’t deserve that because the league isn’t making a profit but they aren’t asking to be paid like nba players.
Except that, REVENUE is up… they are responsible for that revenue increase, why shouldn’t they participate. All the major leagues have REVENUE sharing. What you’re talking about is profit, which is different. There’s plenty of unprofitable enterprises who’s employees, ceo’s, etc. get paid very well and get bonuses based on revenue targets. Very common in the startup space, like Tesla, Amazon, Google, and others at one time.
I’m confused, do you think only Women watch the WNBA? If there wasn’t people willing to watch it, no matter their gender, then the league wouldn’t be getting the revenue for the tv rights that they are getting. The WNBA didn’t get a $2.2Billion dollar rights contract for 11 years because there was no one watching.
They aren’t asking for the same paychecks, they are asking for an equivalent percentage of the league revenue - which is a lot smaller pot than the NBA revenue.
And they’re not gonna get it because the league has only seen a real revenue increase from the Clark show. These teams only exist because NBA money has supported them, so giving them an equivalent cut doesn’t even make sense.
Maybe if the league generates revenue long enough for the owners to recoup their investments in the teams they’ll be in the position to make that change.
I’m not sure they should get the same cut either. But there’s a massive gap between 9-10% and 50%.
Idk how much they deserve. But I understand why they are pushing back. I’d guess we would all do the same in their situation.
Agree with RT. Not sure if they should get 50% of the revenue sharing (yet), but they likely deserve a lot more than they are getting. Here’s the thing, @coogman91 if the revenue isn’t sustainable when the 11 year media rights contract comes up, and revenue dips, then their pay will too.
Yeah, I don’t know. I’ve worked for companies that went through unprofitable years and was grateful they kept the lights on and I had a job. I did not go demand a raise when they returned to profitability.
And again, every single one of them made the choice to sign a contract to play here. Why is their agreed salary unfair now?
They are in labor negotiations under their CBA. If they don’t negotiate now, when would they?
That’s fine.
It’s the public pleas about unfairness that get me. I don’t blame them for trying to improve their deal, but i would also understand that the owners told them to kick rocks.
I’m sure they’ll get a raise, and I’m sure there will be whining about how it isn’t enough.
But whatever - not my circus.
They got us talking about it. I’m guessing that was the goal.
And what will that be worth in revenue discussions?
We don’t know yet. We will see.
