Wow…the total (points) for the game was just posted. 79 1/2!

Gotta think I might have to do the under.

Tickets still for sale for this game? Looking for four.

I was a business major and never won a spelling bee, but I am pretty sure I have never seen Oklahoma spelled with 2 D’s.

If we’re 25 point dogs, then they think the final score will be right around 52-27. I feel pretty confident we’ll score more than 27. I’d probably take the over on this one.

You have company in your analysis. The total is now up to 81. And spread is down to 24 1/2 from 26. Happy with my 26 and will wait on the total for a bit.

I bought my $100 bet at +25…I am also buying a Moneyline bet for a UH win, but those are not out yet.
I truly think that we are going to give them all they can handle…

Take a question to Grinch early in his Monday media availability. I asked how the safety competition is coming along.

“Probably not as much competition as I like at this point,” Grinch said. “I kind of echo what I said in the spring in terms of the trouble. … Delarrin (Turner-Yell) and Pat Fields kind of are established at this point. So credit goes to them. In that sense, there’s some positive there. Again, the negative side is I don’t feel the push from that second level.

“I’d like there to be more competition back there.”

Asked about the same thing later, Grinch was more blunt, saying, “There’s a message for some of those guys that don’t find themselves with the first group at this moment. If you’re just a two by default, and we wouldn’t put you in a game, you’re just that. You’re just a depth-chart guy. Not truly a rotational player for us.”

With all the numbers that OU has at safety, it’s surprising, frankly, that Fields and Turner-Yell — two sophomores who were among the lowest-ranked members of the Sooners’ 2018 signing class — are this far out in front of everyone else. That’s a credit to them, certainly, but also an ominous sign about the guys behind them, like Justin Broiles and Robert Barnes, who both have starting experience and were far higher-ranked out of high school.

Grinch also talked a lot about the ways he’s working to put takeaways at the forefront of his guys’ minds. OU coaches are keeping track of strip attempts and name a “Strip King” after each practice. As of Monday, the team as a whole was at 400 strip attempts through fall camp, and Grinch expects that number to be at around 1,000 by the Sept. 1 opener against Houston.

“A true strip attempt is a willingness to get the ball out,” Grinch said. “That’s a learned skill. It’s a learned trait. It’s no different than a basketball player shooting 1,000 shots. That’s one of the skills and traits on defense, so we make it an emphasis. It’s hard to get it out. That’s why it has to be emphasized as much as it is.”

Houston may be outmatched on talent across the board, but the Cougars should have an explosive offense. Are there any concerns planning against that offense considering there’s a new coach (Dana Holgorsen replaced Major Applewhite) and there won’t be any direct film to study? — Benjamin S.

Interesting thought here, but keep in mind two things: One, there is film on Houston quarterback D’Eriq King, so his skills won’t be totally foreign to the Sooners. Second, Oklahoma has played against Holgorsen’s offense every year since 2010 with only one exception — 2011, when Holgorsen was at West Virginia but the Mountaineers weren’t yet part of the Big 12. These meetings often were a struggle for the Sooners, but they are at least familiar with the things Holgorsen likes to do.

Beyond that, Riley has a personal relationship with Holgorsen that goes back to when both were at Texas Tech, so Riley is familiar with Holgorsen.

Houston definitely will be outmatched, talent-wise, against OU. But it’s also important to remember Houston beat OU the last time they played, and regardless of the outcome, this will be a vitally important first test for Grinch’s new defense. Unlike a lot of openers, we actually will get a good idea of what Grinch’s system will be able to do against high-powered offenses and great quarterbacks.

That emphasis on forcing turnovers via stripping the ball is a two-edged sword. Your defense better swarm to the ball; one tackler goes for the strip while the other defenders actually tackle. If it’s a one on one situation and you go for the strip and miss, Boom! Off to the races for the offensive player. I hope we see a lot of the latter during the game.
