The way AM operates, the deal with buzz is probably already done. Reaks of the Sumlin deal. VT has all the reason to be upset at the timing of this. Tacky move by the farmers.

Supposedly Buzz really wants to get back to Texas too, but I don’t know if that’s true. A&M may also come up with a basketball equivalent to the Jimbo deal.
What would be kind of wild is if Texas swooped in and took him, but I’m not sure I see them paying what it would take on top of eating the $13 million or whatever Shaka is still due.
Texas had attendance of almost 10,000 for their game against TCU last weekend. A&M even had announced attendance of 5,000 for their last home game against South Carolina in a complete disaster season and they were filling up 13k capacity Reed Arena pretty well during Turgeon and Gillispie’s run. It was over the holidays and whatnot, but as an 11-0 team ranked #21 in the AP against a tourney caliber Utah State team we had announced attendance of 6k.
Texas and A&M have nowhere close to the level of support of schools like Kansas and Kentucky and their fan support was really bad for periods during the SWC (especially the Aggies), but to act like we are a power because those schools are held back by lack of fan support is nonsense.

Billy G i think interviewed at UH before Kentucky right??!
No. He interviewed here after he got fired from UK. I believe Mack really wanted him, but Dr. K wouldn’t sign off. Bob Marlin was the backup, but he took the ULala job while Mack was still trying to get Billy G through. After those fell through we moved on to Dickey.
Marlin probably would have been okay and may have gotten us to an NIT or two, but wouldn’t have done anything close to what CKS has. Everything ultimately worked out phenomenally with us eventually getting CKS, but the guy we really should have gambled on back then was probably John Lucas.

I’ll admit I wanted Billy G and was way, way off on that one. Dr. K made the right call eliminating him from the candidate pool. Luke was my next choice for sure. He might have turned out bad, but he had a very high upside. I would have been okay with Marlin or Rodney Terry. Marlin has done well at ULala, but not earth shattering. Terry had a decent run at Fresno and moved on to UTEP this past year likely because he was kind of at the point at Fresno where he was probably one bad year away from getting fired. UTEP was terrible this year but he inherited a bit of a mess.

Except that we have a Top 10 ten team to build off of. Great recruiting coming in, and a brand new building to show off. Should be able to attract a good coach off of that if CKS were to be poached. Not the same as before he got here.

Report is that even though the aggies had a paid attendance of over 6,000 for the last game there was only about 1,000 there.
What it does for us it no longer allows other schools to use game day atmosphere against our program.
A&m is suffering with lack of support without a change and we soldout every game after the holiday break.
That’s true that we have a good situation in place now. But whose to say it would work out exactly as it has with Sampson? Look at Shaka Smart over at UT. Recruits, facilities etc. it just hasn’t panned out. Anyways, here’s to hoping Sampson stays and all of this is irrelevant.

We heard that their library also burned down. All two of the books were destroyed, and one wasn’t even colored in yet!
