Cryptic tweet by Texas Tech. AT&Ts sponsorship of Jones Stadium ended this past season, so my guess is a new stadium sponsor. Texas Tech keeping it under wraps, but they will announce it Friday, 7/17/26. It could be Cody Campbell’s company, Double Eagle Energy, or other energy company. I would not rule out a technology company.
It will be interesting if they keep Jones in the name of the stadium. The stadium opened in 1947, and was named after Texas Tech’s third President, Clifford B. Jones. Texas Tech fans grew up with the name Jones Stadium and want to preserve the name.
The relevance to UH is to compare the financial terms of Texas Tech’s sponsorship and compare it to UH’s stadium sponsorship deal with TDECU, which goes until 2034, for $20M total.
I know Texas Tech was hoping for new money, rather than the bank named Cody Campbell. They succeeded. Interesting what the fan reaction will be to remove Jones from the name.
Really don’t understand why this needed its own thread. This easily could have been posted in the Big 12 thread. Let’s try to refrain from singling out Tech. They’re dog water.
Unless they have abandoned the idea, Space City Financial will be the new name for TDECU once they get all of the necessary documentation and other changes made.
