I went to the NS vs Westlake game. NS didn’t look very good at all. Couldn’t run the ball but kept trying. Their fans were yelling for the Coach to call for more passes. That sounded familiar! Early in the 3rd they decided to go for it on 4th and 3 from their own 19 yrd line! Craziness…and a QB run up the middle. Didn’t make it and 2 plays later Westlake for another TD. Yikes! I was surprised at how poorly NS looked on both sides of the ball!
I give Austin Westlake credit. They were well coached on all of North Shore’s offensive tendency’s and executed on defense. Westlake’s Wise played nearly flawlessly at QB.
Westlake was clearly the better team on Saturday,
I have to admit I’m wondering if North Shore wouldn’t be in a different position under previous coach Jon Kay. Gaston regressed.
You might be aware of this distinction, but just in case it helps…
Its North Crowley HS (as opposed to their nearby mates Crowley HS) that just advanced to the Championship game with their semi-final win over Duncanville.
Yes I am aware sir….i was abbreviating but should have included an “N”.
Wow a Ft Worth team!
Highland Park plays for the 5A title at the same time as the SMU Playoff game.
Didn’t North Shore win it all last year under Gaston? I’m thinking so, but not certain.
But I’d add losing in the semifinals of the toughest high school football grouping in Texas isn’t exactly a failure.
NS - playing in one of the best districts in the state - undefeated until the state semifinal against another powerhouse. And they beat Ridge Point, Katy, and Atascosita in the playoffs to get to the semis.
Come on man!
Nobody wins state EVERY year.
Keep in mind North Shore not only won the toughest district in the state, if not the entire country but they also beat Katy, Atascocita, qnd Ridge Point in the playoffs.
I caught up with my North Shore friends yesterday. Apparently NS lost some key defensive kids to grades this week. They also mentioned the lack of aggressive play calling.
Putting these big playoff games on fringe “networks” seems like a lost opportunity.
Agree. They win on getting superior talent to the school. Against Katy who is still solid but not nearly what they have been, the coaching decisions from NS kept that game close.
Yeah, you’re not gonna win state EVERY year.
Gaston has been fantastic.

I don’t think that is true @commishbob44 .
Everyone is safe with grades right now……this upcoming Friday the 20th is the 9 weeks deadline and you can not become ineligible until Jan. 4th or 5th.
If you were passing 6 plus weeks ago then you are still eligible through December….the last time you could lose a player to grades was late October.
Maybe so. One of the people I was talking to is a district teacher but maybe I misunderstood her.
It’s the same for all public schools in Texas….the dates can be confusing….
Here is an example.
If you are passing all of your classes at 9 weeks then you are good for the next 9 weeks.
If you were failing at the 9 week cut off then you can re-gain eligibility three weeks later but not lose….if you are still failing at three week mark then you have another opportunity to gain eligibility at the six week mark….but again you can not lose it, only gain it back….
That’s why I was saying if you were passing at 9 weeks then it’s impossible to lose at the three or six week mark……you couldn’t lose again until after Christmas break.
I’m sure the North Shore and Summer Creek fans are disappointed, but they both had great seasons. There are 247 schools in Conference 6A. Eight played last week; 4 in the Division 1 semifinals and 4 in the Division 2 semifinals. The fact that these 8 teams made the State semifinals proves that they had a great season. North Shore and Summer Creek will reload and be back next year.
Via YouTube I watched replays of N. Crowley-Duncanville and North Shore-Westlake.
I am picking Austin Westlake to win The State 6-A Title.
Shiner plays Wednesday at 7 pm and Ganado 11 am Thursday.
I’ve been asked to do the color commentary for Ganado vs Stamford 2ad1 at 11 am Thursday.

Not surprised - the QB looked average to be a 4 year starter but NS has never developed a real QB unfortunately outside of Bobbi Reid and the Davis kid who hasn’t lived up to the hype after high school - they get by offensively on athletes who are explosive and good defense
They got Quannel X’s son to move in but still didn’t work
They have 5 state championships. I guess that’s pretty average
