Legacy Stadium, Katy, TX
Austin Westlake (13-1)
Galena Park North Shore (14-0)
Another 6A D1 heavyweight matchup in the State semifinals between two perennial playoff teams. This is the fourth time the teams have met since 2020. In 2023, North Shore beat Westlake 23-14, and in 2022, North Shore beat Westlake 49-34. Westlake’s last victory against North Shore was January 9, 2021, in a close 24-21 win, at Legacy Stadium, with current Clemson QB Cade Klubnik leading Westlake to the win.
My Hometown Angleton Wildcats are playing in Waco against Smithson Valley Saturday at 2:30. Angleton hasn’t been to the state finals since 1958. Go Wildcats!!
I feel like I am dusting off cliches but the team that can run the ball the best will win the North Shore vs Westlake matchup. Both team like to run the ball. North Shore likes to occasionally air it out and Westlake got 3 picks against Lake Travis, so the team that does not turn the ball over will have a great chance of winning,
That is going to be a great matchup. Battle of undefeateds. I did not mention the game because the teams are in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
That said, Summer Creek (12-2) is playing Vandegrift (13-1), December 14, 2024, 7:00 PM, McLane Stadium in Waco, TX, in the Conference 6A, Division 2, Semi-Finals. Summer Creek is part of Humble ISD, just north of Houston, and Vandegrift in the Leander ISD, in North Austin.
