OT: Baseball Season Over - Changes Coming?

24-30 overall, 7-22 in conference. Lost today. No regionals since before COVID. A weird extension from Pez when we hit the Big 12.

What’s coming next?

Nuñez suddenly bolts, Pez comes back, and signs Todd to a long term contract?

Why is this on the football board?

Plenty of discussion all season on this topic on the baseball board.

So everyone can see Pollard’s Vision for the program

This is going to define Nunez tenure. At least in the short term. Being in the B12 doesn’t guarantee you success. You have to compete for it.

Because nobody reads the other boards, and screw those MEGA threads. :unamused:

The success of UH Baseball isn’t going to define Nunez’s tenure lol.

UH is largely focused on making sure the biggest money makers continue making money - Football and Basketball.

College Baseball simply does not generate revenue for the majority of athletic programs, and we do not have the means to compete with the elite programs in respect of funding/NIL. → Because of this, we are likely going to see the issue of sucessful coaches leaving after 2 good seasons for better-funded programs.

Fritz and Sampson are anomalies.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

You have to suck pretty hard to get fired in any non-revenue sport at UH.

OTOH, you can go to bowl games and still get fired in football.

Just ask Levine and Applewhite.

That said, Whitting has definitely sucked hard enough.

Fire him and start anew.

I agree with that. You do have to suck very bad to get the boot on a short leash, but that’s largely because we don’t have the means to keep firing / rehiring every 2-3 years for non-rev sports. It would also be pretty bad reputationally if candidates saw that UH doesn’t give coaches time to build.

It’s sort of rock and a hard place when it comes to UH non-rev sports.

Levine recruited great, and who knows how Tom Herman would’ve fared had he not been dealt with Levine’s recruits. In respect of Applewhite, i personally think he got screwed over in some respects but that’s neither here nor there.

It’s definitely time to fire Whitting.
