lowkey not a bad option since both kingston and milos are gone, and the only other pg isnt a non 5star freshmen
but happy for bryce, ive always thought OTE ruined his life … glad he got a 2nd chance…
but a little confused, he definitely declared for the draft
Agree. If the NIL world had been what it was just a year or two later, we probably would have made some different roster moves over the last couple of years, because he would have likely been next up after Shead.
He was drafted into the G-League last year and on a roster, but it looks like he’s just played internationally.
I cant imagine “declaring for” or not pulling your name out of the draft will matter any longer. Heck, same could probably apply to getting drafted but not signing a contract. What exactly is there to keep those players from continuing to play NCAA basketball. A sophomore or junior who goes undrafted (despite declaring for the draft) or one that goes late 2nd round should be able to continue playing. They are much more deserving than someone who has been playing professionally overseas.
Should never have mattered tbh. The fact that baseball players can retain/maintain eligibility because they don’t “declare for” the draft but basketball and football players don’t because they do “declare” is the most tedious and arbitrary dumb sh!t that has protected nothing and forced players to gamble their future.
Exactly! Does anyone know why it is a thing with NCAA basketball?
After thinking about it, im on board
(lol im aware we probably arent recruiting him, just for funsies)
-
PG - bryce griggs (those not familar with his game- above average scorer and passer, elite level handles - basically think a kyrie irving type player {obviously not as good} shooting was a weakness in High school, but vastly improve since he went pro… defense is a weak point but we are elite at developing defense)
-
SG - Mercy Miller (or caleb holt
) -
SF - Harwell (5star on 2nd year)
-
PF- Jojo {needs to improve offense if he wants to be drafted this year 50/50 right now} - mccarthy otherwise
-
C- Arafan Diane
bench
- Ikenna Alozie
- maybe mercy or mccarty
- Jacob McFarland
- kord
we’d high key have a title contending team before the transfer portal even opened
additional plus (the biggest reason i like this)- we can likely get bryce right now, and get 10 months of prep time for him on the defense and the rotation … weve either had developed pgs or new pgs surrounded by an expereinced roster… next year is a new pg on a young team, bryce would be the best way to allievate that… have him learning now under the current team
How dare you ![]()
Baseball players get special privileges because it’s the best sport in the world!
I may be in the minority but I think the Bryce Griggs ship has sailed. I would concentrate on high school players and college transfers. If a player opted for the G League instead of college, isn’t it likely that player will have academic eligibility problems in college, or is that my naivete showing?
His grades were fine. This was purely a monetary decision based on a sales pitch.
Coach Sampson has said that he didn’t want to get caught with a team “too young” but that is exactly where we are today.
It would not surprise me to see him use the portal for a couple of veterans for next year.
In most cases, top portal players cost more than top HS players. So I think that we’re where we are (being caught young) for very good reason$. ![]()
Relying on the portal to be “old”, can be tough.
Texas Tech, as an example. Heavy portal, lite on high school recruiting. Not a deep roster
And yet NIL wise, they probably spent more than we did.
I was only talking about bringing one or two at the most. Guaranteed that our three incoming freshman didn’t come cheap.
We are only going to bring in a portal PG if he is coming to be THE GUY. Being that we are very selective on who drives our ship, I am not going to even try saying who I think the guy may or should be. I trust the coaches
