When he got to the Panthers, Jimmy Clausen was wearing #2 and tried to charge Cam $1 million to change numbers.
Cam told him that there are everyday blue-collar people that would never make a million dollars, so that was already a slap in the face and to kiss his behind because nobody would ever remember the name Jimmy Clausen.
So he stuck with #1.
Say what you want about Cam but he was right about all of that.
Newton made $133 million in his career (to Clausen’s less than 5), not including endorsements which might have been close to another $100 million. If he didn’t think getting #2 was worth a million dollars, that’s cool, but what do blue collar workers have to do with it? Both sound like a-holes in this story to me. Clausen tried charging more than what others typically do (the most I’ve seen before was $250k) and Cam was just an arrogant a-hole with his response.
Clausen was a huge bust. Loved it. The pundits like Kiper always fall in love with some guy that everyone in the world knows is going to be terrible. Usually a big 10 qb or a usc qb that has all intangibles and worked in a pro style offense with middle of the pack stats.
