OT: Coastal Carolina announces all concessions will be free at home games

Well clearly if you were selling a ticket with free food you would not just give food to anybody who came by, we currently give food out in the clubs and don’t have a problem. They would want to isolate it to a single or small group of concession stands and would require a wristband or voucher system. My family regularly buys family 4 packs from the Astros which come with free hot dogs and sodas, they have a limited number of concession stands that have them and you have to have your tickets scanned. Back in '07 we bought tickets to the Texas Bowl that had free Papa John’s pizzas included. Family four packs are about presenting families with a fixed price and a deal. Giving tickets away does not really get more people to the games because there are still many other expenses. My daughter hates going to games, but if I told her I would get her popcorn, a soda, nachos and 3 snow cones every time she would be on board.

As far as what Coastal Carolina is doing their most expensive season tickets are $250… they must have problems drawing anybody.

UH has problems drawing anybody. They have to do something to make fans want to come to games. This is UH we’re talking about. Not the Texans or Astros fanbase.

If they sell an additional 1-2k tickets - it’s worth it

Popcorn already comes pre popped - so no cost - the biggest cost for nachos is cheese but you can water it down - hot dogs ain’t much as you can adjust syrup on drinks to save

They don’t bank on some super buffet guy to come in and clean them out -

Last thing coogfans need is to stuff their faces with more food.

I’d buy more beer and food if I didn’t have to hike 1/4 mile to the bathroom from my seats in the 300 section. Maybe they’ll put some nice porta cans in the walkway someday.

Even with the theoretical super buffet guy, let’s say he comes by and gets his four items once per quarter. That’s an egregious amount of food, and I’d bet they’d still be pretty comfortably in the black on his ticket. The input costs for basic concessions are super low.

Water down the cheese and the soda syrup.

You would have been employee of the year at 1 outfit I spent some time with earlier in my career.

:joy: only doing what I’ve been taught and seen

Once I saw how the popcorn was prepopped at some stadiums and how cheeses were pre packed at the movies I knew times have changed
