OT: College Football HOF Candidates Announced

The National Football Foundation announced the names on the ballot for the 2027 College Hall of Fame induction. I link to the article and complete list of names and coaches is below. Some names that Texas college football fans would recognize:

Players
Robert Griffin III - QB Baylor
Colt McCoy - QB Texas
Casey Hampton - DT Texas
Jarrett Dillard - WR Rice
Ray Mickens - CB Texas A&M

Coaches
Mike Leach - Texas Tech, Washinton St., Mississippi St.
Tommy Tuberville - Mississippi, Auburn, Texas Tech
Jackie Sherrill - Washington State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, Mississippi State
Dennis Franchione - Southwestern [KS], Pittsburg State, Texas State, New Mexico, TCU, Alabama, Texas A&M, Texas State

The criteria to be considered as a player for the College Football HOF is to be seleced as a first team All American by one of the five selectors recognized by the NCAA: Associated Press (AP), American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Sporting News, Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Case Keenum was a first team All American in 2009, by College Football News, unfortunately not one of the five recognized selectors recognized by the NCAA.

It’s interesting that the rules were amended to enable Leach to become eligible with a lower winning percentage, but there’s somehow nothing that can be done with regard to Keenum’s AA status.

The HOF is a joke till Keenum gets in it.

All time leading passer but not a HOFer…:rofl::rofl:

It’s like the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Joan Jett and Blackhearts (lol) and The Firm are inducted but not King Crimson?!?

Of course anything in Cleveland is going to be douched-up anyway.

Personally I’ll be happier when GWAR gets in.

But no. Cleveland isn’t all bad.

Back to the topic.

Yeah, it sucks that Keenum isn’t in.

Colt McCoy will get in just because he went to ut.

The dirty little secret is how much effort a school’s SID office works on it. Our office isn’t very proactive like UT. UT puts forth an effort to promote their players which is why there are always UT candidates. UH? Forgetaboutit.

Ha! I still have blood red underwear from GWARs gig at Houston’s Axiom in 1989.
Rocket from the Crypt, Dead Boys, Devo (Akron) and Bill Haley and the Comets make Cleveland worthwhile - even the most destitute places, if not more so, produce amazing musicians. Po dunk, Gilmer, TX = Pop 5k → Johnny Mathis, Freddie King, Don Henley, and Michelle Shocked.

Former UH SID Ted Nance did promote Wilson Whitley for the Lombardi Award and Andre Ware for the Heisman. Nothing like UT’s annual propaganda campaign, though.

If Keisean Henderson is as good as advertised, and the team performs well, UH fans may be seeing it’s first player receive Heisman votes since Case Keenum. If Henderson has that kind of season, I want the Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications, which is the official title of SID, to wage a “Henderson for the Heisman” communication campaign so big, that it is acknowledged on ESPN’s Gameday and Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff.

I’d like to see campaigns for Baby J and Case for the CHOF

Even after more than a decade, Keenum is either the NCAA leader, or is tied, for seven FBS passing records. That is ridiculous. Keenum is more than deserving for the HOF.

yeah, i think setting a single season or career record for yardage or TDs should qualify a player for HOF eligibility. that wouldn’t let too many more people in than are already eligible.

1st team AA is the main requirement to get on the ballot

The Houston media was absolute trash in 2011. The newspaper and radio talking heads during that time…

Went and saw all the people inducted. It was actually a cool museum to check out with the family. Right in the center you see a beautiful scarlet red helmet.

I don’t understand any of this.

That’s incorrect. Kolb had a campaign. Keenum did too. I also rememeber Ed Oliver’s bobble head.

College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, GA.

For the CHOF
