Sad news. Dikembe Mutombo succumbed to brain cancer at age 58. A great basketball player and even better humanitarian.

Wow. When he was a Rocket, it might have been like New Years Eve or something like that. He had a big table with family at Churrascos and I was with my family a table or two over.
He was a beast in the paint.
I always got a kick at the finger wag after a block.

He was supposed to be a backup for Yao when he came to the Rockets. Given Yao’s injury history, Dikembe ended up playing a lot of great minutes late in his career. He won’t go down as an all-time great Rocket, but he was very good here before Greg Oden crashed into his leg.
I’m not sure that a fan of any of his teams (Nuggets, Hawks, 76ers, Nets, Knicks and Rockets) would have a bad thing to say about him. And he did leave the world a better place with his riches. Sad news.

Man this sucks. He is a legend here in Atlanta. We were just celebrating Jimmy Carter hitting 100 and then this news hits the stand. Sucks!
