OT: HC Alvin Brooks Not Returning to Lamar

Jeff Borzello reporting that former UH Head Coach and Assistant Coach will not return to Lamar next year.

If what Coach Bill Parcell says is true “You are what your record says you are”, Brooks was not a very good head coach, but a very good assistant coach.

Best of luck Coach Brooks.

Bummer, it looked like he had the ship righted last season.

I thought Mikhail McLean was part of Brooks’ staff at Lamar, but he left there and is on Kentucky’s staff.

Nice move up.

I really disliked Coach Brooks as our head coach. However, he was a great assistant for many years. Any room on our staff to bring him back?

I just don’t think Lamar would be that easy to recruit to

Pat Foster was perhaps the best HC that Lamar ever had. Foster succeeded Guy V. Lewis and, ironically, Alvin Brooks succeeded Foster.

The rest is history.

Pat Foster followed Billy Tubbs, who was also a good head coach at Lamar, but I think Foster wins the best Lamar coach, at least in the last 50 years.

I get what you’re saying but I think overall Tubbs was a better coach than Foster.

Looking back, Pat was in our top three and Alvin in our bottom
3. Tom Penders gets honorable mention.

The problem is getting a job like that right as the transfer portal and NIL era started. I believe he lost their leading scorer to transfer portal every single year. And still improved each year til this year. Lamar puts no money into their athletics, so not surprising kids chase money. Personally think he got screwed a bit. Watched quite a few games this year. He just signed an extension last offseason and out that quick. Somebody behind the scenes was making moves

Don’t help that McNeese decided to be relevant during his tenure also
