Crazy how much talent there is in that same exact corner of north east Houston. C.E King and Summercreek are like 15 mins away from each other in the same district as Northshore. What a gauntlet.

Area been a hot bed of talented teams for decades.

20 years ago it was Forest Brook, Smiley, Humble, Nimitz and MacArthur

Summer Creek, Atascosita and NS are a combination off all those offsprings plus they have the newest and shiniest buildings in a high growth area where completion to attract an athlete is fierce so it’s not surprising to say the least

Hard to imagine what happened to Aldine.

Yea Aldine isd football is just bad. Just as bad as HISD. Aldine won state in 1990 I think and now they’re a perennial bottom 5 team in all of 6a. Horrible program the Mustangs have.

They have a really nice stadium 2nd year stadium and are hosting a playoff game tonight.

Yes, they were a powerhouse. Time flies.

Mother in law moved from Mexico to Aldine in the late 70s. Much different makeup now of the aldine area from when she arrived in the late 70s. Not much diversity in Aldine. I think if you’re going to win across all sports, diversity helps.

Having been one of very few hispanics on the football team (6’2 250lbs), I 100% agree. We had a fantastic team at Humble. Just a great combination of guys: black, white, hispanic, we just all loved the sport.

Unfortunately, not very many hispanics get to be large enough to play positions in football, aside from perhaps kicking positions.

Having gone to Humble, I know exactly what you are talking about. Humble in the early 2000s, was massive. My freshman class, before Atascocita and Summercreek opened, had 1200 students. It was like the movies, just fantastic in every sport.

Acres Home supplied 3 districts (Klein, Aldine and HISD) with a lot of talent over the years but the area is gentrifying and it wasn’t an area where tons of families came back to live - when you talk to folks who now work at those schools it’s crazy what they say

Even the older single family areas zoned to Aldine off I-45 and 59 changed

Unfortunately Hispanics in those areas or in the city don’t participate in sports in large numbers for whatever reason but the school population is 6A and the teams suffer due to that - a lot of the kids will tell you their forced to take on familial duties early on such as babysitting or work and that eats into extracurricular activity time

30 years ago you even mentioned missing practice due to that your no way going to see the field cause there were 10 guys behind you wanting to take your spot

It wasn’t Acres Homes it was the coaches. Good coaches could make those schools great again.

1992, I believe

The support ain’t there. Plus, I’m almost certain, it’s losing kids to districts such as CFISD, KISD, and TISD.

Even Spring isd is bad at football now minus Westfield.

It says 1990 and some crowned them national champions. I guess they were good.

Aldine’s Thorne stadium is hosting Lake Travis vs North Shore Saturday. A really nice stadium.

lol - good talent and a stable infrastructure makes good coaches - easiest formula to win in Texas

How come those great coaches don’t take over bad programs? Coaches know

How can some coaches never get an opportunity to coach great programs?

The same teams win every year - all have great talent zoned to them - numbers - and stable feeder areas and infrastructure with coaches, facilities, etc
