OT: Michael Vick agrees to become Norfolk State coach in college football surprise

Norfolk State is one of the worst FCS teams. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Washington DC, Virginia Beach and Newport News has a TON of talent.

Plus Vick’s name recognition and experience at the position should attract recruits from across the country.

He might be a darn good coach. Anybody that can play nfl qb that long knows the game.

Also, his experiences can help a lot of young men.

Does character and criminality matter less than scoreboards and bragging rights?

Not to me, anyway.

Have you ever hear of the term “selective outrage”?

Pretty sure he served his sentence. Are you saying he’s still doing these things?

Just giving my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

He already did his time for it. There are way worse people in the world, save your energy for them.

I’ll spend my energy as I see fit, no offense.

He did his time… time to move on…

I’m all about second chances and redemption, but nobody here has the right to tell anyone else to “move on” from their perspective based on their own principles or belittle the perspective.

I respect people who have lines drawn. Seems so few do these days…

If I were an opponents band director, I would make use of the song “Who Let The Dogs Out”

Seems to me a lot of people get second chances. Just read the news. Some even more. I am sure he was vetted. I think it is a good hire, be a great opportunity to use his mistakes to help his players learn from them.

He owned up to it, pleaded guilty. People can change. Maybe kids can learn from his stupid acts

Yeah, if anyone deserves a second chance, it’s Vick. Dude served his prison time and has by all accounts learned his lesson. That said, it’s a real weird hire.

I don’t dispute that he has served his time and paid his dues to society.

But I think that JohnnyCougar’s point is that character matters when hiring, and ESPECIALLY when hiring for a position that molds and strongly influences young men in their still formative years.

One could argue that, as a convicted felon, Vick’s character would make him unsuitable for such a job.

I’ll let @JohnnyCougar correct me if I have misunderstood his meaning, but I’m guessing that that’s what he was saying.

The only difference between most convicted felons and others is that they were caught And convicted.

Does character really even matter anymore?

It does to some.

And rightfully so.

And yeah, people do commit felonies and never get caught.

But if they get caught committing one, and there was enough evidence to convict them beyond a reasonable doubt, then that’s absolutely a question of character that can justifiably be held against them.
