OT: More Proof UH Is Transforming to Traditional Campus

But oddly enough they leave smaller HISD schools to go to massive suburban schools and basically kill their chances academically cause a 3.0 in Katy isd and ranked 334 out of 700 may be a ranked 100 or higher in HISD at certain schools hence better scholarship opportunities

And if the same folks who leave HISD run to the new spot together with higher taxes might as well stay in the old spot cause your not coming back over you leave thanks to being prices

People are getting conned in the burbs and paying $500k now for 50 square foot lots and a home with no bricks and less amenities

Gee, the custom home we built in Cinco Ranch II in Katy ISD near Fulshear is definitely ALL brick.

No siding or stucco. As per our request. My wife is an architect and designed our home
she insisted upon that, and even picked out the brick herself.

Plenty of amenities.

My Mom’s 23 year old house which is also in Katy (Grand Lakes) is mostly brick.

Pretty nice amenities as well.

Not sure where you got that statement from.

And for people with kids (I have none), the schools are way higher rated in Katy ISD than HISD for the most part. Generally considered a FAR better school district.

So people aren’t being conned. They’re simply making a wise choice, a choice made, most often, in the interests of their children and their education.

You may say that they are sacrificing class rank or scholarship opportunities
but at the same time
they may be getting an advantage in college preparation or other training, in many cases.

Life inside the loop does feature a better food, culture, and entertainment scene. For people without kids, that’s awesome! For people that can afford to send their kids to private schools, great! But if you can’t afford private schools, a suburban ISD is going to at least feel like a better choice for the settlement of families with children than an HISD zoned area, as a general rule.

You don’t sound like the average person cause your in a custom home that’s handpicked by your wife architect in fulshear near cross creek ranch :joy:-

Now lets head north to Morton ranch zone in Katy or those overnight developments in Paetow’s zone and different story

Look at this - you tell me if this is worth $325k - 10 years ago that same price got you 3500 sq feet brand new on a 70 foot lot or in some older areas a 4400 sq foot home near the loop

That one looks like it has brick from the photo though.

In any event
people from all walks of life move there to be in the school district
whether it’s Jordan
Katy High
or Morton Ranch.

That district is considered better than HISD.

The district but that’s the misnomer - I grew up in a neighboring burb by HISD and perception was the district is better than HISD but got to know folks and HISD had better access to programs and opportunities suburban districts didn’t have

You go to Katy and cypress the same perception exist except it’s narrowed down to individual communities- the Jordan or Tompkins folks are not wanting to be compared to mayde creek or Paetow

That mindset has killed Houston

Just a side note, those aren’t brick houses. They are all stick construction houses with a thin brick veneer. The brick doesn’t hold anything up. We all live in wood homes. Florida on the other hand mandated concrete construction for hurricane proofing. We should do the same.

Well, yeah.

Of course they are all brick vaneers; our house only has a small amount of thin brick around the back patio though. Full Size brick everywhere else. Attached with metal clips to a wood frame.

That’s standard, I got it.

Many houses in my neighborhood are covered in stucco, not brick, but my wife preferred brick.

Standing seam roof?

I agree with that, I was thinking more in the lines as supporting UH financially and going to games before and after graduation.
They certainly raise our test scores

Speaking of brick
I wish TDECU had more brick. I know this has been discussed before and why other materials were chosen. I just kinda like the look of brick more.

Accountant here.

Can we refer to them as “value-added revenue enhancers?”

I live 30 minutes away from Houston in a huge suburb (not Katy, or Pearland or The Woodlands). I have everything I need. I go Houston for UH stuff and work and come home. Totally content.

And I bought my house for $300,000 in 2018 and I could sell it for $500,000 right now.

sounds like Richmond/Rosenberg lol - a $305K home got you premium upgrades, 3300 square foot premium lot and that was on the high end in 2014

In certain pocket areas in Houston I know of in the HISD borders, $300k then got you a custom built 1980s home on a 12K sq foot lot with a real swimming pool (a deep one with a diving board) - your home had a intercom also lol

different strokes for different folks

Puerto Rico has cement homes too. They’re excellent.

Then we could call it the “Brick House” :smirk:

Texas is TEXAS. I never really considered Texas ‘the South’, I thought of us as TEXAS. To me there is a big difference.

Student populations of UT and UH. Slightly different.

So, how do you know the kid is actually taking the course or if it’s AI taking it for him? How do you not have open book tests on every online test?

You can call me old fashioned, boomer, or whatever, but I think students should be in classes. They should benefit from interaction with other students and their teachers.

There’s a larger female student body in both universities.
