OT: More Proof UH Is Transforming to Traditional Campus

You will find a similar gender breakdown at most colleges.

Women have been outpacing men in both college enrollment and graduation for at least two decades across the US.

The article from Pew Research above discusses this.

Students take exams on-camera with the screen recording, or in a testing center like they always did. It’s really not much easier to cheat, if at all, than an in-person exam.

These are great questions and I am sure it is keeping people up at night. Good professors use it and teach you how to use it. I use a bot that one professor built that socratically breaks down whatever you have written and asks questions about areas tha need change in a research paper but does not offer edits. Basically built the writing lab people into an ai bot.

Of course most folks that are grad students want to learn, but undergrads, shoot, if I had AI as an undergrad
lol

Based upon that chart, it seems to me that the biggest difference is that UH is about 60/40 in our white vs black enrollment while UT is closer to 90/10 in their white vs black enrollment. But no real big surprise there.

Reminds me of the days when some of my fellow employees (from UT) liked to share the joke: “Do you know the meaning of the word renege? It’s when UH puts in their 2nd string.”

Unreal

texas is different from the “south”, if you travel to the southeast its very different; except florida, they’re different because of all the beach life imo.

IMO, Florida (esp. South Florida) is its own thing, much in the same way Texas is.

It’s also worth pointing out that Rice, among others, has operated on the Honor System as a matter of policy for a century now. A decent professor can design assignments such that cheating is near-useless, especially in upper-division courses. This isn’t an intractable problem.

I did the same thing with my son.We tried HISD up to the sixth grade. Then we sent him to private school. We could not afford it either
we sacrificed. Further, let me say to the parents on here that private school is far from perfect. However, most of the kids/Parents are doing their best for the child’s future. My son struggled at first coming from HISD. He eventually caught up and was prepared academically and socially for College. He graduated with an Engineering degree and has done well ever sense. He still tells me years later that private school was the best thing I ever did for him. His success as a husband and a father is my reward. We all do the best we can for our children
may God bless and guide us in that role.

We really need to do something about the other side of Scott Street.

After the UH vs West Virginia game , I took Elgin on the way home but the usually 59 feeder to 59 is blocked for construction so I’m taking the spur to 59 on the way home.

The above is just to inform y’all about construction near UH but while driving down Elgin, I noticed some new townhouses right past Emancipation Park that I didn’t see before. I know there are tons of town houses near 59 , 288 and across 45 by east end. Seems the town houses are creeping in the 3rd ward more into the 3rd towards UH to some extent that I didn’t notice before which is a good thing. Also they renovated that dance hall on Elgin but I forgot the name of it.

Guys have more career options than women such as the trades which are good where as women probably need the college route more so I think this is part of the “why more women are attending college”. A guy can choose the college route or become a plumber , electrician or construction worker.

I feel this is fairly accurate.

what “other side” - north of I-45? West of Scott Street? East?

When you take the spur to the 59 exit to head north , town houses to right but they have been there for a while. West of UH has a bunch by 59 but the new ones I saw were right after Emancipation Park on Elgin heading towards 59.

Women are increasingly entering the trades as well as college. However, they are often at a physical strength disadvantage for many jobs. The college route typically offers a higher chance of upward mobility for both men and women.

One thing to consider is the wear and tear on the body in the trades as opposed to an air conditioned or heated office. There are many women in the engineering fields now and I can see that increasing as more women enter the engineering colleges.

Houston doesn’t invest in the Third Ward you say

They made a roughly $200 million investment to renovate the space and offer a variety of wraparound services
